Thinking of getting rid..

of my Fl2.
So far, new clutch/DMF, power steering probs and aircon compressor.

Only one item was fixed under warranty, for the other two i did get a 33% donation from L/R.

But so far it's been about £2K's worth of dealer bills whether warranty or not.

I don't have much confidence in running an 08MY without warranty and i don't feel that at only 35k's mileage, extended warranty is justified.

As much as i love the car, i may change this year ...... Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Maybe we could develop an electrical fault that causes them to catch fire!

I am debating whether or not to have a warranty after the 3 years to see me through until April 2014 when the GMFV agreement ends. As much as I like the car I will probably have a change in direction after the agreement ends and let LR have it back.

Anyone heard anything good or bad about warranty direct? Surely there must be a catch to all their boasting?

Doc,
Looked into this. L/R is a better deal. Had a load of Censored phone calls from Warranty Direct who then knocked 200 quid off to match L/R. Then you still have to pay the bill yourself and fight afterwards to get it back. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

When I bought my MG ZR-Express in March 2005 just 3 weeks before MGR went under I was speaking with the MGR call centre in May 2005 & they recomended Warranty Direct so I took out a policy with them. I was happy with is so took another for the Rover 25. They paid in full for the Head Gasket Rolling Eyes on the ZR back in November 2007.
I only cancelled last year as the ZR-Express was doing virtually no mileage & the Rover was not used that much either.
So from my point of view I would recomend them.

When I applied to them regarding the claim I did state that when their inspector went to view it I did not expect to be messed about with in terms of knocking the cost & I was reasurred this would not happen & it didn't. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I took out a Warranty Direct policy on my Cooper S when the manufacturer's warranty expired. I took out the warranty from the day that the warranty on the MINI expired on the basis that they would then include "wear and tear" items too. Interestingly, they are making the same claim today.

All went well for about 3 or 4 months, until both rear wheel bearings failed simultaneously at around 46,000 miles! I took it to my dealer and explained the situation. They all but laughed when I said it was WD who would be footing the bill. They said that I would have to pay for the repair myself and claim it back; they also recommended that I only replace the very worst of the two bearings as they said that, from previous experience, they would only ever consider a claim for one at a time!

They replaced the worst one, charged me £240 and I sent off my claim, which was instantly rejected because it was "fair wear & tear". It took a fight of around 3 weeks before they finally accepted that the policy covered fair wear and tear.

Imagine being faced with a bill for, say, a complete engine replacement (maybe around £6,000), in the hope that WD might pay out....

Personally, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

I can sympathise Pegleg

I am in the same quandary. Currently I have another year of L/r extended warranty but these vehicles are just too unreliable & the dealerships & L/R lack support, knowledge & Skill.

If all the faults mine has suffered had been whilst out of warranty I would be bankrupt ! I cant list mine as its extends to some whole 6 pages of A4 of faults and experience.

Lovely car when its working but I'm sure there must be better with a much better reliability rate. In fact I may just part company with my caravan and buy a smaller one and go back to a Jag as i too am also worried about the autobox failing ! especialiiy as L/R failed to notice for 2.5 years that it had always pulled away in 2nd gear ! they always thought the lack of power pulling away was a turbo problem Rolling with laughter

Worst 4x4 by far EVER

Dunno yet, but deffo not a Q5. Or X3 or X5. Whistle
I'm in the throws of research.

Not that i would consider one, but 3 people in our village have Honda CR-V of various age, and not one of them has developed a problem. My FL2 has become the brunt of a joke Big Cry

For the most, it's a great car, love driving it. Just too expensive to run when things go wrong that really shouldn't. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
