So did you take a trailer over your mountain or not? I gather from the pseudo hilarity you did not.

Smaller wheels have more tyre. basically more to absorb the potholes and rough roads. You don't want to go offroading in 40-profile tyres now do you! |

The brake system over here is a very simple one, as I understand the system you mean lets you apply the trailer brakes, rather than the over run system we use. There is no off road caravanning here, our caravans wouldn't stand up to it! D4 HSE Lux for me

I was thinking about putting a CarPC in but couldn't find a screen that would fit nicely so I put it on the backburner.

Hi Ub2 this was taken from page 60 of this months Caravan Club Magazine. Question. Are electric trailer brakes legal in the UK? If so, why don't we use them on caravans? Answer Yes they are legal but they would be significantly more costly, requiring a complete redesign of the current European caravan breaking system. There is no technical reason not to do that, but manufactures would need to judge whether there is sufficient customer demand. More debatable is whether there is sufficient additional benefit from such a system over that provided by the current system, which although simple and certainly not "state of the art", performs adequately in the vast majority of circumstances and is straight forward to maintain and repair. While it is possible to provide a more complex more sophisticated and thus more affective system, it is hard to judge whether it is necessary and worthwhile. You may see electric braking systems on caravans for North America and Australasian markets, but these will be significantly heavier than any UK market caravan is likely to be. Hope this helps waaxh03 |

WaaxH03, Like me, Ub2 is from Down Under - here we have real outback/offroad/bush conditions ![]() ![]() Ra You mis understand. Caravans do come with brakes fitted here as standard however they are not electric ones like you have in Australia. All but the smallest trailers need brakes as well. I hope this ends the confusion. waaxh03 |
