England 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Buckingham Blue
Land Rover Experiance taster at Rockingham

Hi All

Used my voucher at Rockinham yesterday, Freelander was amazing in the very wet and slippy conditions, we managed to outdo the Discovery and RRSport on a couple of sections Rolling with laughter . The reason was the better power to weight ratio . Also the simplicity compared to the other vehicals was also great.

Now looking at paying to go again!! Thumbs Up

Nick

Hi

I didnt share with anyone (you can take a couple of friends if you want) I got around 2 hours in the quarry with half an hour on the road. Instructor was great, there were two other groups one in the Disco and one in the rrs but they both failed to get up a very wet soft hill cos they dug in too much. Freelander just scooted up no issue, all the instructors said the Freelander was realy the best car for the job Bow down

It was so good Im looking also to take some customers for an afternoon Thumbs Up 2012 MY TD4 SX Manual in very rare Buckingham Blue!

Yes we went down what felt like a brown trouser hill Shocked but the scariest was the water , cos it had been raining so much it was a bit deeper than 0.5 m ,but we survived Whistle The most impressive bit was telling me to stop hafway up the hills and then pull away ...which it did (in grass/snow and 2nd gear)

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Glad you enjoyed yourself yesterday, look forward to seeing you back at Rockingham again.

Rockingham yesterday was particularly tasty due to the recent rain making the tracks nice and slippery and allowed the Freelander to go where it's bigger cousins struggled although there are still places where they can go that Freelander can't at the moment, such as the big deep ruts.

The original Brown Trouser slope is not in use at the moment due to the track conditions but the alternative used yesterday is still pretty impressive.

On a Dealer issued voucher, the standard package is 3 hours. Starts with a 20-25 minute briefing on LR techmology and offroad driving theory, then an on road drive of about 25-30 minutes and then the rest of the time is offroad. If you are lucky enough to be on your own (with the instructor of course) you will drive for all bar about 30 minutes, 5-10 on road and 15-20 offroad.

Everything about my day at Rockingham was superb, but the brown trouser hill really showed what hill decent can do.

Still using MY11 D4 at the moment as even LRE can't get hold of MY12. If you want to try MY12 then at the moment you'll have to use either Range Rover, Sport or Defender. Hopefully MY12 D4 will be delivered fairly soon but not holding my breath.

Nick,

Are you going to risk taking your manual XS round to practice clutch/brake control next time?
Failing that why not have a go for a split day in the manual Defender and then one of the Freelanders big brothers?
I'll pass on your comments to your instructor who'll no doubt be well chuffed.

England 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Zermatt Silver

My son bought the whole day experience for SWMBO and me and we went to Rockingham as it fitted in with our caravanning exploits. Was that the right choice or what! Our instructor, Ed Cobley , was brilliant. I have always had an issue with herself not being confident in the FL and with winter weather and all I would always feel better if she went out in the FL rather than her Ceed. I had a quiet word with Ed and quite frankly I may well have buggared of home for a 50% part of the test as he was absolutely ace, he worked with her on her confidence, her driving skills and any negative issues she had with the terrain. By the end of the day herself was totally confident behind the wheel of the Frelander and since then I have had no problems with her driving the car. In fact she will now say that she will take the FL if the conditions are not at their best. The spin off for me of course is that no other vehicle is considered, other than D4, when I muse about replacing the FL.
I can thoroughly recommend Ed and Rockingham as the guy and the venue. As a matter of interest our experience also showed that the FL, other than extreme conditions which it is unlikely that mere mortals like us would ever encounter, would provide the "get out of the Censored "capability far beyond any other so called off-roader. Ralph
Zurmatt Silver, Diesel, Automatic, side steps, mud flaps, mats, boot liner, TomTom Start 60 installed, rubbing strips, removable Brink tow bar, after market tinted glass, front styling bar, Rear spoiler, Motorlicious tail pipe trim. Wood Company centre armrest
