Executive cars such as Beemers and Mercs seem to have superior build quality and materials over mainstream brands such as Ford and will hold value a lot better.

Clarkson once said on Top Gear though that for the price of a low level 3 series, you could buy a V6 Mondeo ST or a Mazda 6 MPS which are far more powerful and much faster and have loads more kit on them. So the question is (without being overly critical of the depreciation), could you buy one of those examples over an executive saloon or could you not bear to be without the prestige badge?

An example closer to home would be IF Kia for example made a 4x4 that was very nearly as good off road as the FL2 but was better in all other respects, could you buy one or would you not dare to buy a Kia?

I'D CERTAINLY CONSIDER ONE ESPECIALY WITH A 7 YR WARENTEE
But i'd proberly not be allowed to get one

I would have no problem with a Yeti, but the Kia might be a step too far. Give the Koreans a couple more years though - just look how they have improved in the last decade. Mind you, by then, it may be the Chinese car makers who are the competition...

Beemers and Audis are mainstream cars now aren't they? Let's face it, there are millions of them around, every other car on the road is a 3 series.
