Very disconcerting whole body oscillation under hard acceleration for example when trying to overtake on motorway. Body of vehicle seems to want to oscillate but stops as soon as lift off accelerator. At first thought it was rear bushes on links but both replaced. Both rear shocks also replaced but no difference.
Very disconcerting as car feels as if it is out of control if trying to overtake from say 40mph. Otherwise drives OK. No rattles/clocks. Not a judder but a whole car wobble.
Tyres all newish Goodyears. FL2 2009 120kmls auto.

Thanks Jules, definately next step. We started at rear as the sensation is of rear wheel steer. The feeling is as if the rear starts to oscillate almost as if you were towing a trailer and it hits a certain frequency and sets up a to and fro swerve.

Although it seems entirely physical, check for error codes in case the stabilisation is malfunctioning (it works on rear brakes)

From symptoms, more likely is a CV joint, or similar, locking up under torque stress, or engine/transmission mounting. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Thanks Ian, it sounds as if I should try to find a specialist to do an error code check and then a general transmission/suspension mounting check.
It is the most odd sensation when it occurs, quite scary as if the oscillation will get worse and cause complete loss of control. It stops when throttle released. All the more odd as when driving gently all seems OK.
Best description I can think of is that car starts 'snaking' when pushed even moderately hard on motorway.

I would think that you are right Jules, it should be failsafe.

The description sounds like what happens when you are tail heavy or towing with no nose-weight on hitch.

I thought that the FL2 had electronics to counter that with the brakes.

Rear dampers, springs, suspension mounts come to mind.

Thanks All. Just to clarify, this happens on any road surface during moderate acceleration combined with a slight steer, a typical overtaking manoever. I described the movement as snaking as if there was a trailer causing it, but it happens without any trailer!
Really foxed by this one, having already replaced rear shocks, link arms and bushes to no effect.

Finally Solved!
In desperation booked it to local non franchised specialist asking them for a diagnosis only just to move forward. Received phone call after a couple of hours saying they had found the fault and fixed it!
Turns out that total wally of original 'mechanic' had failed to tighten bolt securing arm to rear hub allowing it to wobble all over the place. Garage took a video of loose bolt and movement of hub as evidence. Highly dangerous and very disconcerting to drive. We were right to identify it as coming from the rear. I think lesson is, check other people's work before looking elsewhere for causes.
The garage thought it strange that the 4 wheel alignment people didn't notice it although I suppose it wasn't really their job.
Called original garage to politely suggest they may like to check their work in future but he flatly refused to admit it was his fault.
Happy to congratulate Tamar County Cars on finding and fixing the problem, great outfit and previous good experiences from them. Will stick with them in future. I had better not mention the name of other outfit where I certainly will not be going again.
Brilliant to have my old Freelander2 back driving as it should. I've had it for years and really do rate them.
