Rattles and Knocks

Just as a suggestion but possible solution to some of the rear knocks... I had an annoying knock/tapping from the rear of the car...solved by an oblong piece of self adhesive felt on the seat belt buckle (long end)....found it was knocking on the hard plastic trim on which it rests when not in use...another common source of knock is the lack of attention to the stops on the rear tailgate....if they are not wound out far enough the tailgate knocks/rattles on its latch...technique is to just have them contacting body panel prior to latch engaging, i.e. tailgate just under tension when latched, this is a major source of knocks on all cars, just carleless build.... I have just been to the dealer with what appears to be a rattle in the rear when on an average road with undulations however when I go over speed bumps I get something like a creak this can be reproduced if I press down on the rear door when parked. The dealer admitted there is a problem but want it back for a full day in order to investigate. I used to have a Hyundai Tucson that had a rattle from the boot cover so I took out the cover on the freelander still there. One of the best things about the freelander was the tightness and ride hope that this is not the start of things to come

Ask Shilen he is now the forums expert on Knockers , he has experienced a lot in his fl2.

The first thing I do with new cars is check the boot and bonnet bump stops, its surprising how far out of line bonnets can be. Checked fl2 when new and it was 100% already Thumbs Up At work

Did somebody mention knockers?? Whistle

CG is quite correct. I had a knocking / creaking noise coming from the drivers side rear - very much sounded like trim catching in the back door or suspension related and I also went through the task of removing the spare wheel, load cover etc incase it was those that were the cause. In the end 9 months and about 7 seperate visits (3 of which were week long stays!) to 2 LR dealers and the problem was eventually sorted! To be fair LR didnt have a clue either and went through the process of replacing suspension fixings, stripping down doors etc etc but in the end turned out to be something 'in the body of the car' (dont ask for anymore detail than that - thats the only answer I got from the woman behind the service counter!) and took a mechanic 3 days of key hole surgery!

Best thing to do is get a LR Technician to go out with you on a test drive and before you arrive at the dealer, have a drive around the nearby roads to find the roughest that are most likely to cause the knocking noise. When I first took a technician out the road outside the dealership was really smooth and after half a mile there were still no knocks so I turned into a side street that was quite bumpy and you guessed it 'knock knock kncok'. Be persistant too - it took me 9 months but I finally got it cured and am enjoying knock free motoring! Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

Y'all must be talking about a different knock then, mine only does it backing out of my driveway.

Dash buzz/rattle

Had a buzzing rattley sound coming from inside the cabin, sounded like a speaker rattle.
The missus said it was on my side & I said it was on her side-both correct It was the rear view mirror-It's driving me mad.

We had the same problem. Take it into the dealer with masking tape around it and it shames them into replacing the rear view mirror!! Whistle Also had a buzzing noise which was coming from the RHS of the steering wheel. They refitted the trims and it's okay for the moment at least!! The dealer has fixed the squeak/rattle from the back of the frl2 apparently all what was required was an adjustment to the tailgate I am a bit concerned that they also told me that they had done the recall on the heater surely this shoild have been done months ago

Interior mirror - mine was replaced - still buzzes occasionally - my fix was to push an elastic band over one side (psaaenger) looks strange but has worked for 10k miles.

Other noises - get occasional buzz from dash around steering column - goes away after a few mins - not sure wjhat but annoying when present.

Had clonk when changing gear or weight transfer - sounded like suspension - was fixed after LR worked out it was something to do with the rear door shut - they took the trims off the sill and attaked something with a screwdiver and hammer (official LR fix) - it did work - no recurrence.

Latest noise is the fan in the air distribution system. noraml at low speeds but on motorway has started making a fast clicking sound - like something hitting the blades as they rotate. Turning on recirc makes it much worse - slow down and its all back to normal so it must be something to do with airflow - any ideas appreciated.

You did not say what had caused the buzzing noise around the dash area.

I have this noise and cannot trace it.

Do you know what or where it came from?

Just to update my own issues:
Mine went in for inspection of suspension among other things. They said they found nothing amiss other than a nut that needed a little tightening. I noticed no improvement. The other day I removed the spare wheel/jack/moulded foam and found some cloths stuffed under the foam mould - presumably by dealer service! No improvement there either so I investigated further.
I have found that the rear nearside wheel has some lateral play. If you grab the top of the tyre with both hands and pull towards you there is movement with an associate slight knock. There's also a squeak. The offside has no such play but has a worse squeak. It's booked in again while I'm away (ironically, working on a Land Rover dealer launch) so I hope there'll be a diagnosis on my return. I'll keep you posted....

I also occasionally get a rear clunk usually on uneven ground at slow speed... thought it was something in spare wheel tub but no, tracked it down to the rear exhaust box knocking against the tow bar frame. The rubber exhaust connection thingy (correct name please?) seems a bit worn allowing too much latteral box travel so I'm gonna try fitting a new one and maybe epoxy a good chunk of rubber to the towbar frame as well.
