The post 2012 are expected to produce better figures. My 2012 has improved quite considerably and after eight thousand miles will reach 42 ish on a decent trip with about 36 locally. |

Only getting 32mpg on my 2013 MY XS TD4. It has only done 200 miles so I'm hoping and praying it improves! |

With that fill-up I also added 500ml of 2 stroke oil to check out the claims of improved mpg and a quieter engine. No noticeable difference in the quietness of the engine and mpg has got worse - this tankful averaged 23.9mpg! Don't think I'll take notice of the 2 stroke myth anymore - it may work for some but not for me. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto Present: Audi A3 S Line. |

Well I am totally confused - either there are two types of Freelander 2s ie ones that are fairly economical or ones that are not. There is a huge range of happy/good MPG FL2s and a huge number like me getting in the 20's which is not acceptable. What amazes me is everyone just accepts it because it is a Land Rover and they go anywhere. I have done a number of brim to brim MPG tests making sure I do not exceed 2,000 RPM even when pulling away and not exceeding 68-70MPH (checked on GPS) and my figures are as follows: 4.546 litres to a gallon 13/2/13 Mileage 7437 put in 44.71 litres 21/2/13 Mileage 7772 put in 51 litres 29.86 MPG 9/3/13 Mileage 8156 put in 63.06 litres 27.68 MPG 16/3/13 Mileage 8427 put in 36.78 litres 33.59 MPG 18/3/13 Mileage 8646 put in 30.09 litres 33.08 MPG 29/3/13 Mileage 8965 put in 50 litres 29 MPG Yes better than some but no-where near the 40MPG some are getting. My driving is generally out of traffic/rush hours and on dual carriageways/motorways. Also the onboard computer is showing me averaging 35-39MPG so anyone using this to check their MPG 'don't bother' as not accurate. The FL2 fanatics will all come back saying we do not care about MPG and we did not buy for a good MPG -sorry I do not buy this arguement as yes it is a good car and British etc but let down by inconsistent MPG claims. Personally I would like LR Marketing/Engineering to comment as this will gradually build up steam on these figures. |

Sorry forgot to add that I too tried the 2 stroke test and maybe it is quieter but the MPG also went down. I have an SD4 Auto and I do not need the out an out power and if chipping or change to ECU mapping gave me better MPG rather than performance I would go with that. |

Why not ask Kelly to explain these issues you have. She represents L/R, not us. The fact that some on here are happy to except their mpg is a personal choice. |

Well my new TD4 manual is just a week old and fuel consumption on a couple of around 160 mile trips appears to be 38 mpg one way and a very respectable 42 mpg on the return trip given its a new engine and its not very warm, so pleasantly surprised.

Is that on the trip computer or doing the old fashioned but accurate check via a top up and check and then re-topping up and checking? If correct I am not surprised you are happy. But continues to show the variance between models. |

I think a lot of it is down to the type of driving you do combined with your driving style. Our one mainly does short, cold, local runs so I'm happy averaging 25mpg. The Mrs uses it for work and for taking our dog out. Quite often the engine never reaches working temperature by the time our journey is completed. One time though, when warmed up and on a steady run at about 60mph using cruise control, I zero'd the clocks and it showed something like 38mpg so that sort of fuel consumption is possible but not typical. I'd say unless you are doing constant motorway/A road driving in an empty vehicle (and if I was, an FL2 would not be the car for me) it'll be near on impossible to average high 30’s/low 40's on a regular basis.
