Could anyone please advise me on the best brightest bulbs I can put in my car without the major expense of a retrofit unit? I've just fitted new led plug and play side lamps and my halogen headlights are embarrassed to come on!!

On the recent Autoexpress test 19 October 2016 the winning bulbs were

Philips Racing Vision, claimed 150% greater output, but with very much reduced life

2nd place RingXenon130+
3rd place GE Megalight Ultra 130+

I have to replace my Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited as both dipped lamps failed within a week of each other and I now have standard spares in. The Osrams were distinctly brighter and whiter. Probably going to go for the GE, 2for1offer in Halfords.

Philips have also produced an H7 LED replacement, they gave out similar light to the test winner, looking at the scores, beam said to be legal, but not officially approved for road use. 140 quid each apparently from what I can see. Wonder if there is enough space for the cooling fins / cooling fan at the back of the bulb. Giving these a miss I think.

I want to replace the headlight bulbs in my FL2 GS TD4. Something road legal but as bright as possible. There's a great choice out there, but I'd like opinions on what's the best to get.

I got some Halfords 120 HB3 bulbs for my car.

Have had 1 full set blow inside 6 weeks, friday evening the nearside exploded, and then today the offside did the same. So I've made 2 trips to halfords in 2 days - not impressed !

Once these go in a few days/weeks (as I fully expect them to) - I'll be getting my money back from Halfords and getting some OSRAMS or GE bulbs. Those halfords bulbs are complete pony IMO.

Going to hijack this thread now........ I've tried search and I am struggling a little. Is there away to find out if your car has xenon lights or halogens bulbs without taking the the headlight out? I've looked at the headlights of my new FL2 but I can't see any letters in the glass saying what bulbs are used as there was in my older FL2. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

the halfords ones are too long and on mine seemed to be jamming on the shutter. every time one blew it jammed the shutter ..

swapping back to the standard Phillips ones has resolved the issue for me

As yours is a GS it will most likely have halogens. However it could have had xenons specced or even retrofitted. Open your bonnet and on the actual headlight there will be a white rectangle label. Which will read HAL UK or HID UK.

Thanks, will check that out in the morning. I'm sure it will be halogen bulbs, the car I bought had a few upgrades so wasn't sure if the headlights was upgraded or not. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Do you have the headlight leveling switch inside the car? If you do not have this then your car from factory came with xenons.

Or
