What does the "prog" button do?

I'm trying to make sense of the heater logic in my SD4 XS (so it has climate control).

There are 3 buttons in a vertical row, one for each of the front and rear heated screens, so I'm unsure what the third one is for, the one that says "Prog" on it?

I know that if I get in the car in a morning and hit "Prog" all three buttons light up and the thing demists and warms up wonderfully quickly, but I'm still not entirely clear exactly what the logic behind each button is.

Ultimate de-misting and de-icing I think. I believe it activates air con which is great for de-misting and coupled to the heated screens it makes short work of it. The PTC heater or whatever it's called activates at low temps to help warm the car until the engine warms up. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I believe the heated mirrors activate with the rear heated screen button LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Thanks, that would make sense. I was going to ask if there is some sort of heater "booster" in the car as it seems that warm air starts to come through the windscreen vents in next to no time compared to any other car I've had.

Yes there is, in the heater ducting there is a low wattage electrical heater to take the chill out of the blown air before proper warm up.

Have to say, becoming more and more impressed with the Freelander 2's array of clever gizmos (2010 TD4e HSE, Balti Blue) but still waiting to have my winter tyres changeover later this week & then prayer mat out Bow down for snow here in Devon some time sooner rather than later

On a similar note, but not worthy of a new thread, when the air-con is in "auto" mode does anyone know how it prioritises where to send air to?

I ask as whilst the car seems to be the temperature that I set, there almost never seems to be the perception of air wafting from the front or top of dash vents.

They work just fine as if I manually change to them they start to blow, so I'm assuming that the bulk of the air is delivered via the floor or somewhere a little less obvious?
