Track Rod End - Approved Warranty Dispute

Hi Guys,
Took my FL2 for an MOT via a dealer only for it to fail on excessive play in the track rod end. I have the approved warranty in place and the MOT warranty up to £750 (£50 excess).

Now i would consider this item to be covered under the normal approved warranty (non £50 excess) but the warranty house is saying its the MOT warranty as the vehicle has done 60,000 miles and its wear and tear.

Now don't get me wrong £50 is far better than me forking out to pay for the repair but my gripe is, the warranty house knew the miles on the vehicle 11 months ago and they are trying to lessen 'THEIR' costs.

I intend to complain but do you think i'm am right?

The warranty booklet states steering is included in the policy and for me this starts at the steering wheel and follows down to the track rod end...

Let me know,
Thanks,
Chris

i would ask the question to the warranty company if yours is ware and tare it must be premature because other freelanders are out there with a lot more milliage on and with no ware to the t.r.ends and if you ask the dealer how many has he changed and the answer is not a lot then it must be coverd under the full terms of the warranty for premature ware Thumbs Up have a moan who is the warranty with rainy-city

Cheers,
The warranty is a genuine land rover one although i guess its only a 'guise'.

I'll let them complete the work today (for £50) and then argue the point with them afterwards.

I find find it strange that they are sending me reminders to pay in excess of £550. On the back of this incident i can't see me renewing!!!

Thanks for your comment

The approved warranty should provide cover up to 100k miles so as far as i am concerned I think it is b Censored x.

I had similar thing with my key, I was told that it was wear and tear when the battery failed. I argued that its premature and said that i had full service etc etc and eventually i got new key.

I think the trick is to get the dealer on your side. Thumbs Up good luck! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

The dealer, to a degree on the phone yesterday, was on side but I'll push later. The info i need is the number of track rod ends they've changed on this age of vehicle with this number of miles.

Cheers for the advice Smile

A thing that can affect the wear and tear, or ware and tare even Laughing on a steering ball joint is if at anytime its been apart for repairs to anything else on the steering or suspension, it can be easy to damage the ball joint rubber seal when breaking the joint taper and if a split seal is not replaced on reassembly wet and grit gets in and it soon does it in. In that case it wouldnt be failure do to wear and tear more due to the mechanics hamfistedness Rolling Eyes
