Thanks all for your input, i've decided on a local garage solution, which when complete allows me to start thinking about driving the next 80K or so....before thinking about it again.

Woah...just reviewed on You Tube what i was contemplating and ,,,,nope it's going to a be a garage job !, the only thing I can contribute is finding a good one at a reasonable price.

Thankyou my friend ! ...just checked and Near side spring at the bottom has a jagged end to it so it looks like a few inches are missing.

Now to get it fixed which I fear is going to be costly.

Hi I checked the springs and cannot see any breakages, my thoughts now are with a heat shield that may have worked loose and fallen through the engine compartment .
