Hi everyone.

Because my Freelander 2 is close to 75000 km, I'm wondering, besides the engine oil, what other "oils" I have to replace (differential, gear box, etc.) and what are the intervals.

CG will suggest cooking oil for the BBQ. Only engine oil the rest will be top up, such as the lubriciant oil etc.

At least CG has a reliable supply of quality chicken for the BBQ.

Don't forget not to be shocked when the new oil turns black almost straight away. Unlike petrol engines which stays quite clean for a while.

This one caught me out - as a newby to diesels - as I was about to challenge the garage - until the great people on this forum put my mind at ease with their knowledge - and wit  2002 Honda VFR800

Yes for the diesel engines is normal for the oil to turn black very fast it's not a problem.

Still, Blacklr said that won't be needed to change other "oils" than the engine oil durring the normal operation - it's only needed to check the oil level in the differentila, gear box, etc. If so, can enyone tell me how to check the oil levels in that parts?

Manual Transmission/Front Differential - Castrol MTF97309, LR Part No. LR006247, 1.9 liters
Transfer Case - BOT 118 PLUS 75W90, 0.75 liters
Haldex - Statoil SL01-301, LR Part no. LR003136, 0.65 liters
Read Differential - Castrol EPX 80W90, LR Part no. LR003156, 0.7 liters

Hello All,
I've just drained off all the gearbox oil in my 2008 FL2 manual diesel to check it.
According to this thread it should have and did have 1.9 litres in it.
Unfortunately when trying to put the oil back in the gearbox you can only get 1.7 litres in before it runs out of the filler hole!
So do I need to tip the car on its side to get the last 200 ml in or is 1.7litres correct?

i am realy confused! Transfer case, ive got repair manual in transfer case spec pdf file there is mention Oil drain plug &
Oil filler plug BUT!! in Transfer case fluid level check.pdf there is only mention about in picture that there is only one plug?
What the hell? I will put copy from pdf file of this!

Mention about oil: Power transfer unit fluid
LR003137 and Power transfer unit lubricant
BOT 118 PLUS 75W-90 are these same?

And the manual transmission draigin and filling pdf, it is shown 2 plugs, filling and draining that should be right like it should be.



1. WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
Raise the vehicle on a lift.
2. Remove the engine undershield.
Refer to: Engine Undershield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
3. 3. CAUTION: Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.
4. 4. CAUTION:Thefluidfillerplugisnotafluidlevelplug.
Top-up the transfer case with recommended fluid, until the fluid is level with bottom of filler plug hole. Remove 120 ml for correct fluid capacity as shown in Specification section.
Refer to: Specifications (308-07B Transfer Case, Specifications).
5. 5. CAUTION:Replacethewasher. Install the fluid filler plug.
Torque: 35 Nm
6. Install the engine undershield.
Refer to: Engine Undershield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).

About all filling plugs, what size of copper washer they have, or do i have to go and buy " set of all sizes of copper washers, i need to know transfer case and gearbox copper washer size

Does anyone know if i can replace my auto - Transmission oil with Castrol TransMax Z instead of Mobil ATF 3309 Automatic Transmission oil? After 100.000km is a good time to change the auto gear oil?

May I ask if you can comment and advise for the Haldex what the 'Active on demand filler plug' is and do we need to purchase one or is there an alternative?

Had mine just over a year now. Did a full service when I got it with around 67,000 miles on it. Changed just the oil again at around 72,000 (I get my oil/parts for cost or less at work and do my own repairs ). Changing the oil and filter again tomorrow with just over 75,000 miles on the clock and I've got a tin of engine flush to try out as well. Going to give it a nice long drain while I fit a new set of front pads to try to get rid of my low-speed squeeeeeeeek under light braking so we'll see how clean it is when I put the new oil in. My repair regime might be different if I was paying full price for parts plus labour though.  Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
