Bad Fuel?

Filled up two days ago. Usually says 500 miles range but since filling up this time it is saying max range 400. Miles per gallon gone from 36 to 23.

Nothing has changed apart from the weather. Any Ideas?

As far as i know any turbo'ed vehicle will use more fuel in warm weather as the air is not as dense. So the engine cant breath as well as in the cold. Thumbs Up

Blimey, as bad as this. My old freelander used to get better in the warm, up to 100 miles more out the tank. This has dropped by that much. Not even turned the aircon on yet!

I always thought diesel engines were bad in the cold not the hot due to the long warm up period and the normal electrical things switched on.

I was expecting improvement with the warmer weather. Thats why I posted this. Could it be bad fuel, as the chage to mpg was immiediate after filling up, or could there be something wrong with the car.

My old freelander1 used to be seriously effected by where I filled up with morrisons being the worst, but this time I filled up at Shell.

I had something similar happen to me a couple of weeks ago, fuel consumption dropped from 39 to 33 and the engine seemed to have a distinct lack of power. This problem started the same day that I refuelled at my local supermarket, so I put it down to power fuel quality.

Since then I have only used Esso fuel and have seen my average rise from 39 to 43 MPG.

How Many Miles have you done since fill up? if you have only done a couple of miles say in a low gear then it will be basing the projected range on that driving style until you are empty?

Hi, i've done about 40 miles and its now saying a range of about 380 miles to go. Its always calculated high before and then come down as I have done more. You can actually watch it counting down now even when the eco has turned the engine off!

It shouldn't change with the engine off,
Keep a pen & paper mpg calculation on the tankful?
Maybe its the computer needing a software update?

It's the intercooler that likes cool air, between 0-6 degrees C, high performance turbo engines have a jet of ice cold water that can improved performance.

Have you had the aircon on too that makes a difference too

Warm weather won't affect fuel consumption that much. I've driven in 47C and not noticed a difference. Look elsewhere, bad fuel, sticking brakes, under inflated tyres or transmission problems (terrain response malfunction?). Cheers

I recently filled my td4 up when it was on the bare bones cost £90 to fill it ,currently done 449 miles and the range left says 57 so just over 500 miles to a fill up,i do mostly city driving with the odd 30 mile motorway trip and i filled up at sainsburys...So 500miles for £ 90 not sure if thats good or bad as i have had the car only a couple of months and i am a volkswagen man so i normally get value for my miles...What do people think good or bad... Confused

18p per mile, not too bad I would have thought. ______________________

I recently drove to Teignmouth from Milton Keynes.

I think that's about a 500 mile round trip on a full tank.

I was quite pleased with that.
