Tuning for economy

An article in Sunday Times Motoring Supplement on tuning and remapping for better economy and torque had the following quote,
"some tuning firms say thier customers are now more likely to turn up in a Land Rover wearing a tweed cap than in a Citroen Saxo wearing a baseball cap"

I had my 10my FL2 GS Auto mapped and certainly improved MPG. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

You can understand that, with the price at the pumps any improvement in MPG is a bonus.

Druand. I am thinking of having my FL2 mapped how much did it cost and what improvements in MPG performance did you get, do you think it was money well spent.
Anyone have any companys in the Notts/Derbyshire area they have used for the above ?

offroad essentials offer a "torque tune" and i think Iain is based in derbyshire

you can get their details via the sponsors page, but its best to google the company and email them direct

other options will be the sponsors of sister forums, Bell autospare, Alive Tuning, Turbo chips etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have been put off by this for 2 reasons. My insurance company (Churchill) will not accept any mods to the vehicle. They used to but have now stopped it.

Also, Land Rover won't honour any engine repairs cos they will just turn around and say 'ha ha! the fault must have been caused by the re-map so warranty void!'

Anyone had any dealings with LR having had a re-map done? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I have had all my land rovers chipped from new and the dealer did not care! Also don't tell the insurance company!
And the main reason for a performance chip is POWER as Clarkson would say!!!

I suspect that some dealers will be bothered and LR might not authorise repairs if they get wind of it.

To be honest I don't fancy the idea of not telling the insurance company. If an accident occured and they sent a bloke to thoroughly inspect the vehicle and discovered the change (perhaps by checking the engine diagnostics), then they won't pay up. Plus I have got GAP cover too so that would also go down the pan if they found out. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

If only it were that simple with £25k worth of freelander. If I thought LR wouldn't give me any grief then I would look at it.

Half my problem is my mindset. I am always trying to think of arguments, plans and excuses that LR might come up with. I do it when dealing with people at work too. Mindset of a lawyer. Hence I am studying law and my Skills lecturer concluded that I have "A raw and rather individual talent"

I used and abused my previous defender which cost almost 30k when i bought it! You cant keep it wrapped up in bubble wrap! and the best thing about it was send it back to the dealer when it was broke

Interesting how some dealers are so laid back about things.

I bought my FL1 from Hunters Derby. Censored useless. I reckon if you specced up an autobiography FFRR to about £100k and purchased from them, they would make every attempt possible to be rude and unhelpful.

Got the FL2 from Stratstone Nottingham. Huge improvement thank god. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

If as the literature and comments say that the remapping is just taking more advantage o fthe quality of fuel we use in the UK. Why doesn't LR offer regional remapping?

It would make sense to me and would be totally valid with the insurance companies as it is a Manufacturer provided change.
