How Much More?

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of buying an ex demo SD4 XS. Of those that have already bought one of the SD's can you clarify how much more, if anything, you had to pay for insurance Shocked

Thanks in anticipation Smile

Nothing more, it's the same insurance banding despite the slight difference in new price. Why dont you phone your insurance and ask for a quote, mosdt are open until 10pm, some even later.

If you buy, LandRover insurance will automatically cover you for 7 days and will quote you cheap just to get you onboard. They came out cheapest for me at about £265 (I'm at work and can't remember exact figure), this was Fully Comp, protected NCB, wife as a named driver, low excesses, wrong fuel, windscreen etc.
I'm sure next year will see a leap in cost but I'll cross that one then.

When I got my new SD4 last month the insurance company im with didnt ask for any addition to what I pay against my previous TD4. Went onto their website for a dummy quote and came out a few quid cheaper than what im actually paying now so would suggest you wont see any difference in going for one.

Dont add a towbar though - premiums soar if you do that,............ Whistle Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

cost could just change due to the car been more expensive

even if you have a 2nd hand FL2 at £18k and replace it for a like for like 2nd hand car which is £28k,(2nd hand so you dont get the new shape more powerful engine etc) the insurance company has £10k more risk, therefore the premium might increase Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Nope, not a factor, unless you go into mega pennies for something exotic. After all Del Boys Reliant Robin can still hit and damage a Rolls Royce, so the value of what you drive is reasonably insignificant. More over it's the insurance grouping the cars in.

Rolling with laughter

I was gonna say that's rubbish too or else insurance companies wouldn't be interested in how much your car is worth including a few quid for mods! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Sorry NPinks, but my recent example mirrors that given above. £18k trade in, £28k new car, premium dropped by c.£14 pa with same insurer. Hence fee for changing was reduced by pro rata reduction in premium........... Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

Different cars though, and each car has it's own rating dependant on value, security, desirability to thieving scroats etc

Also some insurers will have absorbed small increases and decreases so your premium stays the same, that's why I did say 'might' Increase Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Could be why your not still in insurance! Rolling Eyes There is hardly any increase between model within a range. You look in Parkers or one of the other guides.

As for insurance asking you to value your car, go on line and put in 10k value, then quote for 20k value, all particulars the same and guess what? The premium is the same. I know I've done it. In any case, you wont get the value you put on the car if it's a write off, you'll get the going rate, which is considerably different. You must know this if you worked in insurance? Your valuation is purely academic!
