Nice and legal off road track in Derbyshire

Search for the following: Moor Lane, Little Eaton. http://maps.google.co.uk/

Basically, turn off the B6179 Alfreton Road and go up the steep hill. keep following and eventually the road becomes a proper track (nice and wide too) leading through the woods. It has been bone dry here for a while now but there is still a proper mud bath at the end.

My boss discovered the road in her FL1. It is a proper named road as you can see on google maps so no trespassing worries.

Not worth travelling from afar but for people in the Derbyshire area then its worth a look Thumbs Up

I'm off vanning round there over easter royal wedding weekend so I could managed to get lost and end up taking a short cut through the woods Whistle

If you've got any more shortcuts I could take with out getting in too much trouble with swmbo or any good spots to drive to around the Matlock area Thumbs Up

I see there is a "Dead end" sign at the begining to Moor Lane, can you exit at the other end Question

Yes guys, I didn't go all the way through as I had only just cleaned the car but my boss has been all the way through the other week. The dead end sign is to warn mere mortals that 2WD won't get through I guess! The track was wide enough for me to do a 3 point turn in any case. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Interesting!!!

From the "street view" both ends of the lane are dead-ends....

Why didn't the Google Street-View Camera Car not do the route if it is a public highway - would have made for great off-road viewing via Google street view.

Perhaps then "next generation" Google 4x4 Street View - am I on to a winner?

Although it's a proper named road, once the tarmac runs out a 2WD car would be stuffed. It gets very uneven and a proper mud bath at the end. My boss has been through a few times in her FL1 with no problems. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

South-West to North-East or North-East to South-West Whistle Whistle

It's close to the north east end where it meets Brackley Gate. It was still really muddy yesterday despite a lack of rain. It will be more of a challenge after some heavy rain. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Moor Lane

The first time i went down Moor Lane, was in the mid 60's. It wasn't muddy at the time, but rough with plenty of rocks sticking up. As we were only in a Minor 1000, belonging to Staffordshire Farmers, it was demanding enough. Good job we started at the Brackley Gate end!!

Update

Hi guys,

Update for you. I still have not ploughed through the mud bath because I am waiting until the car is ready for a wash which will probably be late next week. What I have done today however is investigate the Brackley Gate entrance/exit. You can see a row of houses on google earth, so drive past those and then the track begins.

Nice and slow is the key because as you go around the corner there is a very steep descent. HDC was deployed on slowest setting. I did a 3 point turn at the bottom and came back up. Very rocky and frankly an excellent find for a bit of off roading.

Please note that greater care should be taken if you have a body kit fitted to your FL2. Such as the HST or sport models.
