Just returned from a fishing trip to the Spey in Scotland. Covered about 1250 miles the majority of which was on motorways cruising in the low 70's. The car was an absolute dream with hardly an ache after 9hours in the saddle. Overall return on diesel was 38.6 mpg.

As an aside never ever use the 1st motorway service garage coming South on the M74. A total tip and they charged 146p/litre for fuel. Very nearly my 1st £ton for a fill up.

Didn't feel so bad about leaving a floater in their bogs.

Coming home the other day I had been cruising down the A38 and I decided to investigate a track I had noticed a few weeks before. The track is at the bottom of an industrial estate and was quite rutted and muddy so down I went for about 50 yards in mud and ruts mode only to be confronted by a large gate. Never mind.

The point that I liked is how the FL2 goes from cruising along the road to easily driving down a muddy track that a 2WD would never cope with. Outstanding  LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Thanks for the info about the service's, I'm heading North to Fort William in the next few weeks ( with the van on the back)
So I guess I will not see 38 plus to the Gallon ( Mid 20's ???) I will keep you up dated.

Was with a co-worker today and she discovered a "floater" while I was up a chair cleaning a ceiling fan. Stunk the whole cabin out for quite a while - I had to go outside for fresh air. Neither of us thought it might have been intentional ! ! ! ! Good lord, such a cruel protest. I might have to review our pricing structure!

To continue the OP's fishing theme (where the only floaters are fly lines) I did a 1360 mile round trip to fish the Tay in mid March, stopping in Harrogate and Liverpool en route. 3 days great fishing with a 15lb springer as a bonus. Did the LR experience at Dunkeld as well and some super scenery in the snow. c.35mpg which was an improvement on my previous SE........ Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....
