Wales 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Sumatra Black

Thanks ukdave,

the light at the end of the tunnel has just gone out for me.

Had my Freelander 2 back for all of 10 minutes, that was at 17.40 yesterday and was told that the faults had been done started driving home and lo and behold the engine was still over idling and there was still a smell of oil, so about turn and back to the garage I went.

My freelander is back in the Landrover garage and I am at present in talks with management.

will update soon......... Crying or Very sad

I would reject the car, you've been messed about something terrible, and the car sound like a whole lot of neverending trouble.

Hi - I just found this forum and within 5 minutes spotted the "trip reset" thread and this one - my two biggest bugbears with my FL2!

My FL2 is coming up to 10K miles and has been into the dealers twice in recent weeks to try to fix the persistent hot oil smell. The first time they had it for a week and claimed to have replaced the rear main oil seal (and a coolant leak apparently). The second time they had it for three days and claimed to fix another oil leak ("from the engine" - that's all I know at the moment). It still stinks - and I'm sick of the headaches and nausea to be honest.

By the way they also had to replace the propshaft after 2500 miles because that was vibrating against the underside of the car.

I'd love to know what the technical reason was for this smell so that they could fix it and I could get on with enjoying the car. However, it's starting to feel like a "Friday" car and - as it's on contract hire anyway - I feel I should be pursuing replacement or termination.

Any ideas on the underlying cause yet? If not, what are my chances of getting rid, 9 months and 10K miles into a 3 year contract?

Cheers,
Gareth

Hi Gareth

Welcome to the forum, it is somewhere really usefull to collect info when dealers don't do they job

The trip reset is a software update that should sort that out

The smell of oil could be the breather pipe modification that was required a short time ago.

It might be worth having another dealer look at the car as it sounds like the dealer is not too sure on the solutions. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thanks for that. I found the breather mod mentioned in other posts and I've raised the question with the dealer (never heard of it) and LR customer services (can't comment on technical). Dealer is going to discuss with LR tech and get back to me.
