VERY new to the FL2.
Anyone know how to remove the centre consul and the top part of the Dash. I'd like to hard wire my Garmin into the space where the FF Sat Nav would go.

You can also go to the Land Rover owner information site: http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp

And select "Freelander2/LR2" and "Accessory fitting instructions" Then pick the "twin lamp pods" instructions. That will tell you how to take a lot of the dash apart (among other things!)

Hi,

The trickiest bit is removing the dash top speaker grill, to do this I slid a credit card under the back edge to lever it up a bit then pulled it free.

If I get a Garmin 660 I would want to feed its output jack (assuming it has one) to the 'Aux in' of the FL2 audio centre so I can play MP3's from it.

Also of course I would want to find a 12v feed for the sat nav from somewhere.
?? I assume you have done that but its diffcult to see from the photos.

Also I believe that that the 660 has an FM traffic aerial in the 12vdc ciggy lighter plug in. Do you use that?? I guess you would have to wire the 12V loom feed to that rather direct to the GPS unit.?

Finally does the sta nav work ok when buried in the hole as the sat nav antenna sticks out the back right??

I don't think Cypress has fitted a Garmin, he fitted an ipod.
I have the 660FM and I am going to try and fit it into the cubby hole where the factory fitted nav goes. I am looking to take the supply from one of the existing 12v sockets in the consul but going underneath and through the back of the cubby hole. I am trying to locate a telescopic arm to bring it in and out, but not having much luck.

Regarding your other Q's
The Garmin has a headphone socket, not sure if this will be enough for connecting tot he Sound system. I believe the ipod is designed to work through the FM system.
The aerial will work in the cubby hole as long as it is partially opened. If you have trouble you need to purchase an external aerial (does not fit external to the vehicle), it fits on the side of the aerial itself. see this link

iPod - yeah I realise. Not sure why I thought he would need a 12VDC feed..was more thinking about the audio connection.

I was trying to avoid occupying a 12VDC socket in the console and having the FM Traffic antenna stuck ot of the socket and the cable loop off under into the dash. There must be surely be a 12VDC feed wire pair in the dash loom you can tap into in parallel? You could feed the TM traffic antenna plug directly from that and hide it in the dash. No?

I assume the audio aux 3.5mm stereo jack used for plugging in your mp3 player again must come through to the audio unit in the loom and therefore you should be able to tap into it. Its just like taking a shortcut! Rather than run a jack cable from Garmin to aux input socket you run it straight into the back of the audio unit where it must go eventually anyway. I guess!

The Ipod (unless it has a built in FM transmitter - which it didnt last time I looked) would need hooking as I mentioned into the aux input for the audio or into a seperate FM transmitter (untidy). I THINK thats what Cypress has done...

I am glad to hear the aerial works. The external one is cheap and I may get one and sick it on top of the dash if if I find the signal wandering..

Sliding mount? tricky....I have a mini/micro monopod for my camera that has a nice alu. telescopic locking leg that you could feasible attach firmly at both ends with the use of screws or bolts!. Have you see Aarons frame and mount on this post? He has since improved it and is mailing me photos. 200 Euros is unrealistic though.
