Barclaycard

you'll love this one.

I like most people use a Visa to but stuff online and pay it off at the end of the month without interest.

This month I paid Barclaycard 398.32 by Switch on their web site, then forgot about it.

Today, I got my bank statement. Barclayscard took 3 x 398.32 - nearly 1200 quid. I called them and they admitted to two, but not the third.

Anyway, 3 phone calls later - my life is going in 3's today and a trip to the bank who supplied 3 x different authorisation codes and even called Barclaycard - to no avail, we are at the point where Barclaycard are investigating the matter and will take 7-10 days to do this and get back to me. If/when they find the 3rd payment, it will go into my Barclaycard as credit and I have to then phone them to transfer it back to my bank - typical!

Needless to say I am not a happy bunny. Thankfully, I have a healthy balance in my bank and it doesn't put me out waiting, so long as I get it back, but it would be all the same if I didn't.

Bloody typical mate. I have got a platinum visa card with them and I don't use it that much (double freedom points at shell at the moment though). Anyway, I like to pay the bill in full each month so rather than use maestro/visa debit card, I decided to set up a direct debit which automatically pays the full balance each month. Easy and rules out problems like this (touch wood). I would recommend setting one up cos the call centre is probably in Tripoli if you need to ring and make a complaint Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

You are right, some forign accent, very pleasent, but difficult to understand and they didn't grasp the fact it was 3 x the full card balance they took, not just 2 x, which would have been bad enough. I mean, a 1200 quid hit for a 400 quid Barclaycard bill! Evil or Very Mad

My Bank was very good, not Barclays I hasten to add. The Financial Advisor, the Senior Teller and the Manager all getting involved. They even gave me my own office and phone to ring Barclaycard from the Bank, not that it made any difference. Barclaycard didn't even want the transaction codes the bank gave me.

You'd think Barclaycard if/when they discover the third amount wiould automatically transfer the cash back, but no I have to phone them up and ask!

So thats how my afternoon went! Even a special trip into the bank. It's disgusting!

How do you set up a standing order to pay a variable amount?
Seems like a good way to pay. Thumbs Up Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

Not if the firm takes 3 x!

Also be wary about giving your debit card details over the phone. The bank told me, if I'd done it that way, no help or comeback. On line was okay. Oh, I'll be moaning about this until things are righted!

It wouldn't even bother me too much if they'd credited the three amounts, I'd look at it as having paid in advance for a few months. Censored

just get a direct debit form from card supplier and tick the pay full amount box, they then take the amount on the previous statement each month, no interest no penalties, then use the card for everything you can to get max bonus's/cashback. At work

BUT in all seriousness.

I had an issue with Barclaycard a few years ago.

I tried to pay the balance based on the balance from the online account I had. Kept getting bills for every decreasing amounts.

The only solution was to ring them and get an accurate balance and pay by card on the phone. Due to them adding days interest and the time it takes for an online payment.

Better than that, a few years ago I tried to pay off a mortgage with quite a lot of 0's after it with the TSB by another banks Switch card. You guessed it, they wouldn't take it. I had to pay a cheque into a TSB current account to pay the TSB mortgage off, then they sent me the deeds by ordinary post, not recorded or signed for delivery, An envelope with half an inch of legal papers in it. The brief letter told me we cant keep your deeds now you have paid back the mortage, so here are the docs and we suggest you take them to a solicitor to have the standard security redeemed/recorded. Needless to say, I haven't and they have sat in my safe.

I fell out with "Buerklays" in the late '70s. I issued a cheque by mistake, (wrong bank chequebook), and went 10p overdrawn.

Within 2 days I'd had 3 letters from the bank.

Within 4 days, I had closed the account. Thumbs Up

And that was the days before call-centers. Censored ts couldn't even get it right back then. Rolling Eyes We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Yes, the only thing they have got right at the moment is the ISA's. They pay a good rate of interest.
