Things Have Changed - Lookers Chelmsford

Smile
OK. I don't want to tempt fate but, having read the old stuff about Lookers Chelmsford & the problems people had a couple of years ago when Hadleigh shut - I think there's been a change for the better at Chelmsford.

I am not saying theyre perfect - and I am sure the servicing will be cheaper elsewhere, but I can only go on recent experience.

I encountered a squealing noise as I turned the steering wheel hard right (roundabouts etc) on a car which had done only 3000 miles - SD4.

I wss not impressed by my 1st call to report the problem as the lady couldn't wait to tell me how much I'd have to pay if the problem wasnt found to be warranty related...a bit threatening I thought (like BT)
However when I took the car in, they sent a mechanic out on test drive with me so I could show them the fault. They investigated the car - and said I'd need a new steering rack under warranty. They didn't quibble - it was all very positive

They usually charge for courtesy car but waivered that both on my 1st visit & for the 2 days when the new rack was fitted

When I collected my car they explained that the noise had been caused by two bits of metal scraping together and they hadn't heard of or seen that before.

So credit where credit is due... What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

On the rare occassions that I've been into Lookers Chelmsford, I've found the staff to be a bit slap dash. The alst time we dropped the car off for some warranty work, my wife was offrered a Renault Clio as a courtesy car! She politely told them to Censored it! In the end after much discussion they managed to find her a Freelander courtesy car.

Having come from BMW, I do find Land Rover and Lookers very second rate. Freelander 2, GS, TD4_e in Stornaway Grey.

I agree that they're not as good as most of our German car garages (I previously had Mercs) . I was just trying to say they have improved from some of the older posts about them that I have read on this forum.

However I will be looking at Taylors in Dunmow for their servicing prices later this year. I hope to play them off against each other and force the price down at Lookers as a result.

Definitely agree that courtesy car should be equivalent FL2. I am shocked you were offered such a poor alternative. What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl
