Freelander SD engine + 8Speed auto = perfection

Yes 'tis true, according to Autocar this week and it blows BMW's 3 series into the weeds for fuel economy and smoothness.
Now this is the same ZF gearbox that is in the FFRR 4.4TDv8.......................... but it isn't in a Freelander 2, it's in the new businessman's version of the Jaguar XF. 800miles on a single fillup and 52.3mpg on the combined cycle. They report that running, the engine is virtually silent, the performance is superb and its definitely up to Jaguar's standards for NVH. I guess we'll be seeing a lot more repmobile Jaguars after the first deliveries start in Spetember How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack
Gone - 2010MY FFRR TDv8 Stornoway and Ivory, Privacy - the pace of a TDv8 RRS, the incomparable grace of a Range Rover
Gone but will be missed- RRS Tdv8 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather
Gone (only a little missed) RRS Tdv6 2.7SE Giverny Green/Aspen
Defender 90 County HT in Epsom Green

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

I have seen the actual car that is in this weeks autocar magazine in the Jaguar plant, and I agree on idle it is near on silent.

Much quieter than the 2.2 in the FL2! First time the engine is being used in a front to back configuration instead of transverse. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Shame they didn't put this combo into the updated FL2, together with the latest interior, would have made it much more competative.

shame ZF 8 speed will be longitudinally mounted in XF - if Freelander were to have it (given Freelander is transverse) it would need Evoque style wheelarches for it to fit! Laughing
