Hi I have been offered a swap plus cash my way to swap my 2007 freelander 2 for a discovery 3 tdv6 commercial. My back seats are never used as the wife has a large company car and we more often than not use hers for the free fuel on family trips. I would have no problem with the commercial as I work in a testing ctr here in Dublin and the tax drops from 848 to 231 per year insuance is the same. So my question is this... Should I leave well enough alone? will my running costs ie fuel jump through the roof?

I would also look at the fact that you could also be stuck with a D3 Commercial, the Irish government are taxing high rate cars, so, how many people are going to want a D3comm when a transit would be more suitable and possible cheaper on tax

The high rate of tax only applies to new cars and not commercials.

You don't mention the mileage you're doing. IF low mileage I'd say go for it - but if higher the extra running costs of the Disco might make it unattractive. Brian

I would love a Disco 4 but I came from a Disco 2 to an FL2 instead because I couldn't justify to myself the need for the extra space/running costs, etc ( some may say sod it if you like it go for it !! )

All I am saying is you probably have an idea what you should do, so go with the gut reaction.

Speaking personally, having moved up from an FL2 to D3 and now D4, depending on how you drive, the fuel/mileage between the FL2 & D3 is not a big as you might think. Driving the D3 conservatively, I can match the MPG that I used to get from my FL2, the D4 hopefully should be slightly better. If you have a heavy right foot like I do then you will notice a drop in MPG. Like I said, its how you drive.

thanks a million for all the replies. I'm going to take the d3 for a week and get a feel for it, power, fuel comfort and the likes.
