Third thing in 2 weeks, plus.....
Last week at Dunkeld LR Experience, my instructor, Rob (highly recommended) explained how the FR2 only transfers power across the axle through traction control when one wheel spins, when engine revs are 1800 or more.
On the ‘Mud n Ruts’ course, Rob demonstrated this by positioning the car with a wheel on opposing corners high and spinning. Power at low revs did not move the car, but throttle to say 2000 and the wheels with grip took over.
Moral is not to be too gentle with the throttle.
Another tip was when approaching a hill descent, position the vehicle at the top of the slope but angled down the slope. This allows the built in sensors to prompt Hill Descent Control for immediate action, minimising the disconcerting ‘lurch forward’ until HDC kicks in.
When climbing steep slopes with ruts try to keep a steady speed to match conditions by gentle variation of the throttle, tricky in wellies but I got better with practice.

Great tip with the engine revs. I fear if I ever do go off-road, I will spend more time reading the manual to remember all the tips and tricks than actually driving anywhere. At least that way, the car won't get too dirty  1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

I knew about the wheels spinning and getting the revs above 2000 revs but when I practised getting stuck I totally forgot to try that trick
Next time I blagg swmbo into letting me go off roading i'll give it a go.

what always amazes me is what these cars can actually do if in capable, knowledgeable hands, but like mine the majority may only bump up a kerb ( slowly ) every now and then !!

it's still good to know that you are driving a very capable vehicle even if you never have to put it to the test, but some may say it's a bit of a waste ??

Just returned from a half day at the LR Adventure Centre in Dunkeld. Well impressed by the vehicles capabilities.

Just done the 1/2 day at Skipton. Main things I took away:

- If in doubt, put HDC in. It can always be overridden (a la cruise control) and might save your bacon

- Use the Terrain Response System; particularly the Snow one - it's also good for wet roads and for twisty country roads where the system tries to stiffen the suspension and, among other things, gives a better ride Brian

Nope. Like you, I suspect, I didn't think that the settings affected the suspension and I didn't ask him. But, using the Snow and Ice setting did (marginally) improve the ride on rough twisty roads. Brian

Oh well, as far as I knew the suspension is set, period, with no capabilities for adjustment. I'm also going to Coniston near Skipton on the 23rd of this month so I'll add it to my list of questions.
