Sounds like a good game but don't ever run out if you've got a catalyst. the partial misfires as the last few drops are incorrectly metered, will cook the catalyst and may even melt the substrate (the ceramic honeycomb that the clever chemistry sits on with the exhaust wafting over it).
Replacement is going to be about £350 and if not done, the car will fail MOT becuase of the emission check. If the substrate melts it will partially block the exhaust giving high back-pressure, low efficieny, poor performance and rubbsih fuel economy. It may also rattle horribly.

Fuel light bingo

Ran out of diesel(faulty gauge) at the top of Shap on the M6 but managed to free wheel down to the bottom at Tebay where there is a garage.Walked across to the garage and borrowed a can, praying the engine would start without priming.Any way it did and it was a lucky escape.Always fill up at 1/4 full now. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Isn't it impossible to completely run out of diesel, as the engine will shut down first? Which means you don't need to prime it when you restart as the fuel line will still be full. Don't know if it's the same for petrols, but if so that would protect the cat.

I have a friend who has a ford Galaxy - one of the new ones.

There was fault on the sender unit on his fuel tank. Car stopped thinking it had run out of petrol even though 3/4 full. Possible that FL same?? There's always a way forward!

On a vaguely similar note, does anyone know at what point the fuel light is supposed to come on?

Only had my FL2 around a week and was a little surprised that it came on with what looked like just under 1/4 of a tank full?

Mines the same, I posted this on another thread I think about a month ago, just below a a quarter of a tank the light came on with a range of 36 miles remaining, when I filled it up it took 63 litres so five litres was remaining in the tank giving me the 36 miles remaining. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

The light comes on when the range is at 50 miles. Also the built in sat nav tells you were the nearest filling stations are!

Hair raising moment not knowing whether I'd make it today! lol 0 miles for 10 miles and it didn't go into limp mode phew! What is the reserve capacity at 0 miles ? When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

My best one was coming back from belgium in my little yellow Fiat Siecento - there doesnt seem to be a petrol station anywhere between Bruges and Dunkirk. When we got to the port the needle was well past the empty marker. It was about 35C and had to queue to get thru passport control for 2 hours, moving about 10ft every 20mins, had to keep starting the engine.

I was crapping it when it came to get the car off the boat ... imagine running out with all those car behind...
