The last time I flashed someone, I spent the night in the cells Laughing

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Firenze Red

Yep, my lights come on promptly in an underpass, covered car park or tunnel - for the duration. Upon exit,
sometimes they remain on longer in bright day light than required but that is more annoying to others than to me.

As regards flashing headlights to others. Each flash is explained and regularly understood in context of the moment.

Mostly, it is a, "c'mon mate, you're struggling". "After you.." Smile - exchange of raised palms. Happy days.

What idiot would approach a potential hazard and flash headlights believing they are telling all those attending, "I am coming through, regardless?" (That's what the horn is for)

Sometimes you're tootling along a m'way and a heavy passes you - so you flash when his tail is passed. The driver alternates his indicators. It is a cool man-to-man moment. A coming together of the brotherhood of professional drivers is experienced.

Then there's the outside lane when a sucker is hogging the ground so you give a flash in a request to yield, Then when they do - you floor it and speed past. That's cool too.

Then there's the one when you see your mate's motor. That's a, "I see you buddy - high five"

It's common sense and the knack of reading the road. Firenze Red XS TD4 01/2013 . Averaging 1800 miles per month. My 5th Freelander in 11 years. Devotee?

Agreed Freelander2hoo. Although the highway code states otherwise, I would certainly not flash my lights to warn someone to stay put cos I know damn well they will read it as I am letting them make their turn.

Its the way of the road despite what the highway code says. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
