I know I have no pot to wee in regarding fuel cost comparisons. I can't really compare petrol to diesel consumption either. Maybe I would be better off not keeping track of mileage. No disappointment/concern when I'm oblivious. |

Well AiiEEX and Zoey, a third i6 owner joins the brotherhood - if I may! Like you, ignorance is bliss as far as I'm concerned, the car will do what the car will do. However, following on from these posts and out of general interest, I did the sums on my i6 versus diesel as far as my operating experience goes, and using the Land Rover figures for diesel consumption to give a general figure. My car has done 60000kms, fuel in this part of Australia is currently $1.39 per litre for petrol and $1.47 per litre diesel. Based on my overall consumption , it's costing 15.2 cents per kilometre or $9120 in total. On the same basis , diesel would be costing 12.5 cents per litre or $7500 in total, a diesel benefit of $1620. However there is a price premium in Australia of $2000 for the diesel engine so, on this non precise summary, I'm $380 in pocket but will start losing out in around another 11000 kilometres. Of course, non of this takes account of the extra torque and extended range of the diesel nor the increased refinement and less messy refueling of the petrol, which were my reasons for going for the i6. Horses for courses I think. I should add that, on private purchases at least, we have no tax based on car emissions in Australia, different I think in Europe. My guess would be that even allowing for our lower fuel prices versus Europe, depreciation is still the biggest single cost. I'm just very glad that cars don't run on ink jet cartridges or even bottled water. |

You, me, and egipp makes three I was going to do a diesel comparison, but thought it pointless being that there are no LR diesels within this Godforsaken Country.
