Hi,
I was in the same position as you. D4 HSE or FL2 HSE. When Mildred died at Xmas I had an D4 HSE for 3 weeks. I'm a vet and do plenty of serious off roading. Found the D4 amazing. Loved it so much- as did the farmers! We talked about the car more than the animals! Loved the funky LED lights, amazing quality interior compared to D3/RRS/FL2, engine and gearbox and the cameras!!! The decider...the fuel economy...22mpg ave. For me I usually get 33.6 with mildred (with winter boots on). It is just a no-go on the fuel. So new FL2 HSE coming on Wed.I can't help my driving style-short fast journeys between surgery/farms and that hammers my mpg. Can't wait for evoque... But is it a bit too 'bling'? Will it be a chavmobile? Really hope FL3 stays true to LR roots whatever it's name!

But that's just it, I expect the FL2 will only be slightly better on those short jorneys 26-28MPG-ish. Think the D4 is a far better and worth the extra £30/tankful. 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

I went from FL2 to D3 and don't regret it one bit.

Mrs Dave has an FL2 and both are good cars. As for mpg, around town they are very similar, and on the open road the FL2 is about 3-4mpg better but it is a manual gearbox, and she has a slightly lighter right foot compared to mine Laughing ______________________

If you go for the FL2 at least you will have nearly £20K more in the bank where you can get at it instantly, not wrapped up in a D4. Plus in three years time your £20K in the bank should still be at least £20K, whereas your £20K in a D4, with the way fuel prices are going, could be worth about 50p Sad
If money is not an issue D4. 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey

I don’t regret going from a D3 to an FL2 why? The driving experience. The FL2 is more ‘car like’ and therefore you can throw it around.

They are both great cars and if money was no object then I would have the D4. Over a 3 year period and including purchase costs, fuel and servicing the FL2 will save me around £20,000. That’s what made the decision easy for me.

Couldn't agree more with this! Once upon a time the dealer said I could never like the FL2 after owning a D3 but they were so wrong.

IMHO FL2 has better build quality (particularly interior) and is basically a slimmer, lighter younger sibling to the D3, no regrets and the best car I have owned, and looks less "bling" than a D4!

hi all, just come out of a 08 D3 to a new 11 FL2.
Would have preferred to go into a D4, such a beautiful car, but the things that swayed it for us was
£50 a month saving on petrol
£200+ saving a year on road tax.

Eventually wheh the hybrid D4 comes out I will probably change to that, but for the moment the tax man wins Sad

Thanks for all your input ... much appreciated. Bow down
I decided to take the plunge and get a D4 'Landmark' edition.

Ronp, you made the right choice, I went from D3 to FL2 and although I am on my second FL2 I still pine for my discovery. Enjoy your new toy Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I'm not sure a D4 would be worth 67% of its purchase value at 3.4 years 33,000 miles Very Happy
