New SD4 today!

Hi

Collected my new SD4 190bhp auto earlier today. Dome about 40 miles in it, and it seems very nice.

From other owners experience, does the engine loosen up much, and at what mileage?

Thanks,

Simon

40 miles, you stuck in traffic Laughing

Pretty sure it will loosen up, some people attach big white airbrakes to the back, pretty sure just to slow them a little

probably a bit subjective as all engines and drivers vary, I for one, will be interested to see the answers

Enjoy and welcome, pics would be good too Thumbs Up

Paul

My experience is that all new diesels need at least 10 - 15k miles to loosen up properly... Also, IMHO dont be afraid t ogive it some beens in the first few thousand miles when warm as I think this helps in the run in process.... Although dont be stupid and dont threip it in the first 500 miles, but on the same token dont labour it also... Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

I get My SD4 in the next week or so. Never had LR before. BMW no good on these roads any more (especially in winter) full of holes.Had Audi Quatro before aslo, but facied a change. Tried FL2 last year, but had to save some money and convince myself I was making the wright decision. Hope I have. Nearly went for manual but when I tried SD4 found it so easy to drive. Yeah will cost more to run.
Bye Bye BMW 1 series £30 rfl & 55mpg. But hello, sit high & soak up the bumps.

What's the true MPG like in the SD4

Had my SD4 a week and it is turning out about 35mph but not hanging about for most of it.

Picked up mine, 60 plate with 2000 miles on clock, moved up from a SE with 18000 on clock. averaged 30 the SE. Can't see me getting any better return with the bigger engine.
One thing tho, the ride seems noticeably higher in the HSE.

Your HSE won't have a bigger engine will it? Do you mean that you now have a SD4? Same engine just more power. Driven the same it should return similar fuel figures IMO

I thought all of the 2011MY models had been tweaked so that they are slightly more economical? Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

Welcome one and all. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

You are correct, my MY11 TD4 is currently averaging 39.1 while my old MY07 TD4 was averaging 33 on similar journeys.
On the MY 11 TD4 overall BHP has been reduced but performance is slightly improved.

My MY11 TD4 is also averaging 39.1, that is on a 34 mile run of which 24 miles is motorway, the remaining on A roads and city traffic. However the car has only done about 130 miles (only picked it up on 7th March) so once the engine is run in a little more I am hoping for a few more MPG.
