Yes, from watching Sky News this morning it seems the entire pacific rim is on alert, they even mentioned Los Angeles for example.

I watched the video footage of the wave taking cars off the road as they were still driving down it, poor people.

Makes me feel glad about living in the UK. Touch wood we do not suffer from huge earthquakes like that, no massive tornado's like in the USA, no big Hurricanes like in the Caribbean, no major shark attacks and no vast amount of poisonous snakes, spiders and jellyfish etc.

Global warming may bring more diverse creatures to Britain but for now I am grateful we are as we are.

I hope there are no more deaths for anyone out there in the pacific. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I was watching the news and was shocked to see the cars driving along the road, from the aerial view you could see what was going to happen Shocked

Worse when my 5yr old son kept saying that's were uncle dominic and auntie kiku live, whilst been glued to the TV with a look a amazement on his face

I had to explain they live in Burton on Trent, and it's just his Auntie who is Japaneese, obviously I hope her friends and Family are safe, but her family are inland Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

That is just awful, really hits home the devastation of a tsunami. This is now the second recent earthquake on the 'Pacific Ring', lets hope the west coast of the Americas is not the next.

Now Japan is in a state of Nuclear alert.
Hope it doesn't happen. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

that will be due to a normal seawater cooling system will have been shutdown or lost ( pipe work fractured etc) it happens even on non earthquake hit plant, even if all ( and there are more than one) main coooling systems faled the reactors are shut down and though still producing heat for a while, and have residual heat for a long time, its not at the same levels as when on load, other back up cooling measures independant from the sea, and with independant pumps either not driven by grid electricity (gas turbines or diesel generators) or diesel driven pumps will come in and cool the reactors till such time as cooling is no longer required (months). Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I worked in Japan at the Honda R&D centre Utsunomiya in the mid 80's.
We had tremours most weeks; didn't bother the Japanese but i s Censored t myself every time it happened.
There were earthquake drills most weeks. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
