roof bar removal

Hi. Slightly odd question, but could anyone tell me what parts I would need to get from LR to remove some roof bars on my FL2 '57 XS (no sunroof). I bought it a couple of weeks ago and want them off. I understand there is mor to it than simply removing the bars.
Thanks

So will that kit allow the bars to be removed and car returned to 'pre-roof bar state'. ie does the fixing kit fill and cover all the holes in the roof.

If you fitted them as per the instructions, good luck removing the anchor bolts... the adhesive sealer they use should be called "weld-all!"

But, yes, you should be able to return the car to the before-bar state that way.

Alternatively, you could find a plastic or rubber cap to seal the hole made in the trim.

Can I ask why you're taking them off? I like mine!

Just personal preference I suppose - plus I won't be using them that much. Thanks for the help.

Possibly because it's about £100.00 plus cheaper to go on a ferry, because with the roof rails it makes the car over 1.80 meters high. ( so you can't go up the ramp in the ferry thus they charge you more. Big Cry

I was thinking of removing mine to save on fuel and ferry costs and noise, If we go to the South of France it would only take about 1 hour or so to save over £100.00. ! Thumbs Up
(I would cover the trims with black tape for the short time)

The only problem you can't bring a roof box full of wine back. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

simont, That's not a bad Idea ?? Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

IF you save 5 % in fuel by removing the roof rails over a 2500 mile round trip works out approx 16 liters or £22.00 ?? Yawn plus £100.00 on the ferry. Thumbs Up

I removed mine a few months ago - it took a couple of hours in total. You need the correct Torx (5mm?) head to undo the screws. Cost of the new pieces of trim was a little high, but it looks as if the rails had never been on, which was the point.

Before you fit the new trim, clean the gutters thoroughly to make sure the adhesive does its job... Freelander 2 TD4 HSE auto Tonga Green/Alpaca

Never been charged any amount extra to go on a ferry to cross the channel or in the Med to Corsica and Sardinia by any of the UK, French or Italian ferry companies we've used with just the roof rails attached. Thumbs Up

Now if you have the ski rack attached or roof box etc - then yes you'll be charged extra. Big Cry

Thanks all - contacted a LR dealer who say I need new roof gutter trims - approx £140. Is there a part number for these ('57 2008MY FL2 no sunroof) as I may try to get them elsewhere

Has anyone removed the plastic strips that run the length of the roof rail tracks?
I want to know if there are suitable anchor points so I can manufacture my own roof racks. I don't like the aftermarket bars (like Whisbar) for a couple of reasons, predominantly the shallow length attainable.

Well I cant get into some multi storey car parks with them fitted is one reason, only 40mm clearance on the standard roof.

You could always try letting some air out of your tyres to create less hight Laughing

This reminds me of an old joke:

A couple of guys in a van were driving around and had to drive through a small tunnel under a railway. But the truck was to high and got stuck. So the guys stepped out of the van and stepped back a few meters to assess the situation.

The one guy sais to the other: "what if we let some of the air out of the tyres".
The other one replies: "But we're stuck on top!"
