United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey
Aux Heater

Hi

Have collected brand new Freelander 2 SD4 HSE 190bhp Auto today. Brochure says that it has an aux heater to speed up engine warming in cold weather?
Do I have this, and how does it work?

Thax for your help.

Simon

Its automatic it comes on when you start the car and helps warm the cabin until the engine reaches temp .

Just an electric ceramic (ptc) heater in the vent system,, this part was subject to a call in 2008/9 due to a fire hazard . due to a shortage of parts they disconnected the heater in Nov and replaced it with a new one in Feb Confused At work

England

Is the heater part of the water system and heating the water, or is it in the ventilation, ie, heating the air??

Not to be confused with cold climate countires who have proper aux heaters that will heat the engine warter before starting. The PTC heater is just a ceramic element that will boost the cabin heating until the engine is warm... It has no effect on the engine coolant temp and so will not aid cold weather starting....

The aux heater in a lot of cold weather countires are, i think, based on webasto type devices that are fueld from deisel and actually warm the engine coolant to aid starting and are often on a timer or remote start. Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Yes, me other LR has one of those and they are good. Love the smell and the fact the exhaust gasses come out near the front radiator, making it look like it's on fire.

the electric standard one heats the air, its affect is noticed quickly, sadly it doesnt really heat up much at all, just take the chill off At work

For us poor people that don't have the heated windscreen it surprisingly helps to quicken a frosted screen in clearing when the 'prog' defrost button is pressed.
