United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black
Squeak/Scrape Noise Turning Right

Sad
Hi There, am new to the forum. Bought an SD4 (190) in December - just covered 3000 miles and have developed a kind of squeaky scraping noise when i turn sterring wheel tight right (90 degs +) roundabouts etc.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Its going back to LR garage to be checked tomorrow, but just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar? Doesn't happen when turning to left.
Its also fairly quiet - you dont hear it with music on & the drive itself is not affected...yet

Otherwise very happy with it - I am an ex Merc driver - who got fed up being housebound when it snowed!

Absolutely love my new Freelander. AM undecided as yet on Landrover Garage service though. When I rang about this problem, they spent first few minutes threatening to charge me £120ph if its not warranty related problem and telling me they need it all day and I had to pay for a courtesy car. I kind of thought they may let me bring it in for a quick check then book it in if it's a serious problem that needs lots of work....
Am i just experiencing an unhelpful LR garage?[/img] What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

Hi there and welcome,
I have the same model with only a few miles on it and no, I have no squeak/scrape noise. The only noise present on mine and on previous cars is the Power Steering pump when it's on full lock, this is the relief valve operating but not an intrusive noise like you are describing.

Confused Hi Thanks for replying. I am probably overreacting, but as it's only on the one side, i didn't think it was normal.

My other half thinks it's power steering related -I will post back after my visit to the garage tomorrow! What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

Confused
Just heard back from LR Garage - they say they have located squeak to inside the car in steering rack. Gonna replacement be a 2 day job to replace once the rack arrives - so quite a biggie. Am told it's perfectly ok to drive in the meantime and its more a noise i shouldnt have to put up with rather than a safety concern.

So far so good then on customer service.... What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl
