Car thefts?

Hi there,

just got my freelander 2, and would like to know how hard it is for someone to jump in and drive off without a key as the car has no key barrol. i have to park the car in some not to good areas at time and not sure if i should get a steering wheel lock?

cheers

they say modern cars its easier to get the key and drive off as they can't be easily hot wired like the old ones of yesteryear

That's why they break in at home to steal the keys Evil or Very Mad

or they use a hyab transporter and lift it away, loaded straped down and driven off in 5 mins (well we did when i was a bailiff if you haven't paid the parking tickets) Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have had mine fitted with a tracker!

The tracker also has a tilt sensor to tell if its been put on the back of a lorry!

I think trackers to be honest are the way forward if you have any remotely desirable car going now. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

How does a tracker cost to be fitted, or could it be fitted DIY? Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Land Rover have recently launched their own TRACKSTAR system, the dealer was telling me about it when I ordered my new car. I cannot remember the exact cost but I seem to recall it was something like £355 fitted + an annual running cost.

A self respectable thief will use one of these
http://www.jammer-store.com/gps-blockers-jammers.html
And they even come with a cigarette lighter adapter like the one bellow.
http://www.jammer-store.com/gp5000-car-use...ocker.html

Optionally they can use one of these, because you know that trackers are a combination of GPS and GSM:
http://www.jammer-store.com/gsm-blockers-jammers.html
Then the jamming is complete and not even the mother of trackers will do any good.... Thumbs Up

Or one sollution for all: Laughing Laughing

So don't waste money on a system that can be rendered useless from the start.
A tracking system is good for knowing where is your kid with your/his/her car.
Better invest in an insurance that covers theft.

Scary, good to see that churches are not disturbed by mobile phones tho!
I do like the happy purchaser's comments!
'I received the GPS jammer in a very timely manner. The jammer works really great right inside my car, blocks my GPS navigation immediately when I need this. Great product! Thanks. Tom' Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.

Clifford BlackJax 5, loads of good reviews on the net. If someone wants your car, just give 'em the keys, the Clifford unit lets them drive away and then it does some sort of controlled power down bringing the vehicle to a standstill plus it puts on all the alarms. About £200 fitted. Haven't got one but have looked at them in the past.

As most cars today, they are very difficult to steal. Most key fobs are paired with the EMS and i promise you it's almost impossible to replicate.
As said before, the only way is to drag 'em onto a low loader, steering wheel locks are no use whatsoever.
I'd be more wary of wontan damage. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I think it's worth it although I don't have it, Alex forgot to mention that 'A Self Respectable Thief' is hard to find. Most thieves are opportunists with only a hammer, crowbar and a pair of pliers, you would be very unlucky to have it stolen by a professional, and a lot of car theiving is done by breaking into your house and pinching your car keys.
It's a case of weighing up the odds.

There are jammers that cover the entire RF spectrum. They are the easiest to build.
And indeed, a thief that has such thing means business.
As for the renewal, it's your money and your peace of mind.
I don't want to be the your dissapointment's moral author if something bad happens. God forbid! Very Happy
