Full tank or half tank?

Just thought I would start a debate.
As diesel in local garage (Esso) is always 8-10p per litre dearer (£1.419 today) I usually fill tank weekly when in nearest town about 20 miles away where we have all supermarkets.

Has anyone done a fuel consumption check with a full tank as against a half tank?
Would say a 100 mile journey starting with tank filled be much different from same 100 mile journey starting with half tank. You would be carrying approx. 34 litres less, some 30+ kilos. Not sure of SG of diesel.

Your thoughts. All FL2's (3) Gone

30 kgs, about the same as a weekly shop. probably makes less difference than the temperature outside, using the demist, air con, 1 psi under inflated tyres etc etc.

You'd be better leaving the spare wheel out and carrying a can of foam if you're doing localish journeys Thumbs Up Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Spare stays in where I go. Sometimes 2 spares but most times carrying 2 spares + lots or tools I have a mileage allowance.
Got 39.6 mpg yesterday over 235 miles mixed and motorway. Criuse on at 75mph for the 100 miles motorway. All FL2's (3) Gone

What does a gallon of fuel weigh? Maybe 3.4 kilos? (Imperial gallon that is).

I tried to improve the mileage of my Honda Element by removing the rear seats and filling the tank to half, but over the course of an entire winter it made no noticeable difference. Having said that, what did make a difference was not driving like a Censored , and proper timing whilst changing up gears. Whistle

Go on a diet, lose half a stone....

then you can fill your fuel tank and not worry about the weight of fuel! Laughing

Or you could ask your other half to get out and walk, or better still - push. That would save loads of fuel and help with the diet and exercise they started in January. Wink Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!
