Can Bi-Xenon adaptive headlights be Retro fitted?

Hi,
Im looking at buying a nearly new 2.2 TD4 HSE, with all the equipment and bits and pieces already fitted, but it lacks one thing, the Bi-Xenon adaptive headlights.

Is it possible to buy the headlight units and retro-fit them for the existing standard automatic headlights or is it a bigger job than that, (ie. connecting things upto ECU`s or steering etc).

Thanks.

The answer is no! It would take a whole load of new wiring looms etc and would not be economical, ive been told.
So, after a bit of hunting, found exactly what I wanted, ok, it cost a few pennies more, but Job Done!
I Should be collecting on Friday/Saturday next week.

Hi Rooleeds, I have a HSE with adaptive lights, just curious what your solution was. I have found the adaptive lights very good but with most Xenon beams in tall cars I do quite often get flashed by oncoming cars who think I am on main beam!!! So I then put on main beam to show I was on dipped: as they pass you can see there retinas with third degree burns Embarassed Laughing

Was just reviewing the old threads and noticed you never replied...OK, I have the adaptive headlights so makes no odds to me, but there are loads of people reading this site that your solution might work for, so please share Wink

Sorry, not been on for a while. The solution was not to buy the one without adaptive lights and go for one that did have them. There was no other option. I am collecting tomorrow. Hi friends, I thought I would bring this subject back to present, and the reason is that a new matter arose with my LR2 Censored (I will post details about that soon, but only when I 've found out how LR will handle this - I apologise for being so cryptic for the time being Rolling Eyes ). Anyway, a good man at my service garage looked into the Adaptive Xenon matter and told me after looking at the Adaptive required parts, that if someone has Xenon the required equipment is already there (except from the lights) and some programming. Hence if you get the AFS lights and program the ECU accordingly they should work. I realise that it's not recommended Whistle , but could anyone with tech knowledge out there spread some light onto this? How about the instrument panel warning light etc? The wiring loom is supposed to be the same for Xenon and AFS. Please share your wisdom with me... Wink
Btw I haven't heard from some 'old' friends from the forum, is everybody preparing for vacations? I think only Avtur is on his guard! Thumbs Up

Normal xenon retro fit is pretty easy and has been done several times. AFL version is a little more involved. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Normal is easy, but leaves a legacy of flickering lamps. 10forcash can programme the ecu which means you can use ordinary or Xenon.

Just swap headlights from normal Xenon to AFL is not enough? Maybe just additional ECU coding or something else?

Indeed, you also need to modify in the CCF (car config file) byte 15, from block 2 - PARAM_EUCD_CCF_HEADLIGHTS_TYPE.
You need to change it from 0x03 - simple xenon type to 0x04 - adaptive xenon type.
This, of course, if you change it from normal xenon type to adaptive xenon type.
From halogen to adaptive xenon it is much more complicated.
