Spare Wheel Width

Hi Guys,
Just seen the thread regarding tyre widths and it made me think about my tyre question
Why has my spare wheel (steel) only got a 225 width and NOT 235 (like the other normal tyres)?

Not looking carefully when i bought the car in December, i thought great i'll use the spare tyre (as its new), that'll save me £150....not the case!!!

Any help is appreciated Smile

Chris

its a space saver believe it or not, why they dont just use a matching size is beyond me, something to do with the spare being steel and the bolts being for alloys At work

Its not so much a space saver as a Full 19" fits in the hole, more like money saving. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I can't understand how its decided what car will have a full size tyre with alloy, a skinny tyre on steel or a compressor and a can of junk.
Mine came with a proper tyre on a spare alloy and I'm not complaining but for the cost at manufacturing stage it would only be a few £'s for every car to have this.
Penny pinching at its meanest.

They all have the same rolling circumference.

Correct me if I am wrong but haven't LR stopped supplying a spare of any kind now, its a can of jollop unless you spend another £180 when ordering a new Freely. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

yup, spot on... Thankfully lloyds are giving me a full sized spare alloy. I'd be stuffed with a can of hairmousse!
If you're going new then push for alloy in the deal Smile

I think mine's a same size 235/65 17 spare on steel wheel, but it's a Hankook rather than a Conti. 2008 Td4 SE

Just did (its on the front now) after getting a full size alloy for spare. Maybe it was put on there by previous owner though.

CG is correct (again) - spare is a 225/65 17 not 235/65 17

Snap, 235 on mine too. Swapped the tyres round so I only needed one new wrangler for the back.
50 Mph limit on the steel spare is due to using bolts for alloy wheels. You could get new bolts to suit the steely then you could 100mph Twisted Evil
