Tailgate Doesn't Open....Help!!!!!

Hi Guys,
Opened the tailgate this morning and it was like it was having a talk with me...basically chatting away Sad

After closing the vehicle and pressing the open button once on the remote the tailgate does NOT open. Pressing twice has no effect too. It does open if i use the 'tailgate' button on the remote but not off the normal door button Evil or Very Mad

Have a done something wrong? Is there a procedure to re-enable the tailgate lock to open off the drivers door (one press on the remote).

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks

Quite a common fault I am afraid mate. Mine did this a couple of times, although it normally started working with the central locking again after a while. I believe it is to do with water getting in and corrodeing the lock somewhere. Apparently there is a "self do" fix, if not a trip to the dealers for a new switch (quite cheap). Try a search on here for the fix.

I believe the problem isn't the switch because in maffs's case the switch DOES work.
It doesn't work from the remote control, together with the doors.
Instead it only works from the remote with its tailgate only button.

Or I didn't understand it correctly?
Either way, it is a must that the tailgate to open together with the doors on the second push.

So the problem may be elsewhere. I believe that it is on the Central Junction Box.
In its CCF (Car Configuration File) the car has several memory locations that are afecting the behaviour of the locks.
Byte 29 - GROUP_EUCD_CCF_PRIVATE_LOCKING_TRUNK
Byte 178 - GROUP_EUCD_CCF_SELF_OPENING_BOOT_TAILGATE

Try a hard reset - remove a battery lead and reconnect it after a while. In this way you'll force a reload of the CCF information.
If it isn't working, go to the dealer to reflash the default CCF's content. It may be corrupt.

But I don't want to scare you. I may be wrong...
If it isn't with copyright, I will add the phrase, as in CG signature: The above is Alex's opinion so may be far removed from the truth. Smile

Mine was a switch problem. Didn't work with central locking (intermittent) but did work with tailgate release. Tailgate keyfob button releases door completely without needing to use the rear handle switch, this being where the problem lies.

Car is booked in with the main dealer for Thursday. They've ordered a micro-switch but we'll see. I'll update thread accordingly.
Cheers,
Chris

I believe that the water gets down on to the switch as it runs off the rear window, onto the tailgate and runs inbetween the panel which houses the tailgate switch, number plate light (can't remember the name of the panel) and the tailgate itself. There is no seal between the two sections, the rubber cover on the switch should save it from any water that is sucked on to the tailgate as you drive along. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
