Just had my first run in with the anti 4x4 brigade

As titled Rolling Eyes Was parked in the supermarket and was in the middle of a new X3 and a new Disco. A guy in his mid 40's I would guess, and with a bloody ponytail no less Shocked, walked past and said to the women with him, 'another 3 people that dont give a f*** about the enviroment'.

Ok, each to there own opinion and I don't really give a monkeys about what he and his hemp clothed partner thinks but I did feel the need to point out, when next to them in the veg aisle, that the big bundle of asparagus they where buying comes from Peru, by nasty old aeroplane.

Oh yeah, and what did they load their throw away plastic bags full of shopping into? A planet friendly mirage that is the Prius? No, it was a V6 Vauxhall Senator Laughing For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days.

We nipped to Bedford when the snow was deep to pick up some new wheels.
On the way home we pulled a few motorists up hills and off the side of the roads, until one "gentleman" commented "well at least these Chelsea tractors are good for something". At the time his BMW was attached to the rope on the back of the FL2.
We gave him possibly a longer and faster tow than he was expecting Twisted Evil then left the rest to rot in their unsuitable, environmentally friendly, boxes.

That's the last time SWMBO will let me give another motorist a helping hand. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

what is annoying is that the majority of these people actually do not know what they are talking about with regard to environmental aspects of anything.

they think because they have ponytails, do not shave or wash for weeks on end, wear clothes from charity shops, and eat loads of vegetables, that they can make stupid comments like that and someone will listen.

and they always seem to smell a bit as well........................wonder why ??

Iain

To be fair freelanders are very good on fuel, not only in their class but also against many "normal vehicles."

My FL2 came with 40,000 miles of carbon offset which makes it "green" as far as I am concerned.

Don't all new FL2's come with carbon offset???? MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

You can "opt out" and save a few quid, but well done land rover Very Happy

In a former life I and other members from the RRSport forum used to go over to the green peace forum to discuss the carbon of set program in detail, I don't think they liked us..... Ex-2009 Freelander 2 HSE Auto owner

but what does this offset do? buys a few trees in some foreign land? and buys a load of Gyapa cook stoves in Ghana.

Does anybody here buy carbon offsets when they fly etc are know there are web sites that will gladly take your money if you offer it Confused

It would be excellent to find one of these blithering idiots stuck in snow. Then you could pull up and make them apologise for all their nasty comments. If they refuse to apologise then just wave goodbye and leave them stranded. If they do apologise, you can say 'I believe you. But its not going to save you'. Then drive off anyway Rolling with laughter

You could also tell them that a cow farting produces more methane than a Range Rover. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

CO2 compare and contrast.

In the blue corner:
Freelander Td4 (worst-case i.e. before 10MY) man = 194, auto = 224.

In the "green" corner:
V6 Senator.

Some assumptions required as whilst g/km was recorded, no publicly available records exist pre-2001. So, probably going to be built before '96, would be EU2 emissions at best. Also trying to be positive (and in beardy-weirdy blokes favour) let's assume it's a manual and you're looking at something in the region of 300+ g/km?
