Sounds like one of the two connectors that earth on to the side of the socket has popped out of the ipod charger and gone through one of the slits in the socket so the more you pull the further it goes in and that will also be stopping you pull the socket out of the centre console.

Check on the tech-info site for removal procedure. Looks like you'll have to take the socket out then twiddle with the contact to push it back in before you remove the charger. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !! |

I've still not sorted it. I asked the dealer to look at it, but they wanted £60 to change it. So I have my iPhone charger permanently plugged in!
