Whistle from new SD4

Hi

Finally got hold of my brand new SD4 yesterday (first Freelander). Picked it from a dealer 150 miles from home and had a good drive back on pretty much all types of road.

Lovely smooth and comfortable drive home, however I did notice quite a audible whistle under medium acceleration. I don't recall hearing anything like this on the demonstrator I tried (although that was months ago!).

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Perhaps a hose on the turbo is a bit loose or is that just the way the turbo sounds!

Many thanks for any advice

MG

does the "S" in SD4 stand for "supercharged"? if so,, that'll be your whistle..

Had a pronounced whistle/whine in my 07 TD4 which I was told was fairly normal albeit mine was louder than some vehicles. Went out with Dealer in a couple of other FL2 which also whistled.
My MY11 TD4 also whistles/wines under acceleration but not as much as my 07 TD4.
I suspect it is probably normal.

Called LR Assistance out to have a look/listen this morning (was impressed with their 25 minute response time), who checked all the usual suspect areas, however could n't spot anything amiss and struggled to hear the whistle anyway!

Perhaps just one of the "characteristics" of my vehicle (the identical one I drove at the LR experience yesterday did n't whistle though).

That aside, great vehicle and have now done 500 enjoyable miles getting up to 40 mpg on stretches of motorway cruising and up to 35 mpg on my daily commute. Now all we need is some more snow...

It sounds to me like it could be the turbo. I know it is not a FL2 but my X-Trail has a noticeable whine (rather than a whistle) above 1800 rpm and under load.

Its most likley to be your turbo that is whilstling which is quite normal, mine does under exceleration. your more likley to hear it if you have no music playing, your window down or going through a narrow street where the sound can be bounced back of near by walls, cars or other objects.
Relaxe and injoy your new car, THERE GREAT Thumbs Up

my Disco 2 had a very audible turbo whistle which you could could hear say in second or third gear under normal acceleration from about 2000rpm to 3000rpm.

my FL2 does not have any turbo whistle at all, which I do think is strange ?
