Strangely enough we didn't even consider the X3 or Q5 even though they are the most obvious competitors to an FL2 HSE. The new X3 wasn't out at the time (and the old one was hideous) and I can't help looking at the Q5 and thinking its a tall A4 Avant. In fact I park next to one regularly and it is a totally different beast from a FL2. I can't imagine anyone looking for a proper 4X4 would be considering one.

We did look at the RAV4 (dull), Kuga (tall Focus) and Jeep Patriot. If the Jeep hadn't driven like a van (and a cheap van at that!) we might have gone for it, it was rather fun. But no regrets on the FL2, it is by far the nicest family car we've ever had.

Even considering replacing my V8 300C with a matching D3 now. 2010 HSE Auto in Santorini Black/almond with xenons and privacy glass.

I have a good friend who has a 10 reg Defender 90 as his 'Country car', sensible choice!
