Dunroof, what was the outcome with your visit to 10forcash, any joy?

Smile

Steve. For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days.

Yes, the front sensors can be retroed.

You need the sensors obviously.

You need the proper ECU, which had a 16 pin input and 2 x 12 pin inputs. It's the one that located behind the nearside plastic panel in the boot of the car. If your present one hasn't got it, i.e only 1 x 12 pin input, then replace. I think the dealer price for this is 90 quid list. There are other options, like obtaining from a breakers.

You need a facia on/off switch.

You need a loom to connect the ECU to the on/off switch. One from a rear sensor kit will do nicely.

Connect up and get it enabled and hey presto, front sensors that work the same way as the rear.

I haven't done it yet, but give me a month or two and it will be done.

It's strange, but the majority of things that can be retroed are in the options list for a new car.

Cheers Dunroof.

I did find that many of the options were factory fit at build rather than available as a dealer fit option. For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days.

True, but you could say that about the Cruise Control. Howver a 34 quid part from the dealer and a quick enable and 260 quids worth of factory build has just been done.

Is it worth the hassle, running the wiring sounds like a nightmare.
Thought the front sensors are on if the car is moving forward, didn't think there was a switch. Whistle Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

No, they arn't. That apart, I do get the feeling your being a bit negative about retroing. Fair play, it's not everyones taste, but try not to damper others enthuisiasm please.

Anyone after a Crusie Control, see the following link.

This is an excerpt from an e-mail I got from Iain from Offroad Essentials today.

Quote:
The front PDC should work OK with the new module and dash switch, haven’t had time to look into the TR wiring and my current schedule doesn’t have a spare day in it until mid – Feb but as soon as I’ve found something either positive or negative I’ll let you know.

This is the ECU for both front and rear sensor that I got off Tatbay. I had to ask what connections it had and I got the feeling the guy, a motor trader, had others.

No, not against retro fitting just honestly wonder if it's worth the hassle in this case.
How do they normally operate? Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

Normally, they operate off a switch that the driver turns on. It's situated in the array of switches by the hazard, lock and unlock buttons.

Half the fun is mucking about doing something to the motor, just like the 2011 upgrade bumper. The upside is you learn a lot about the car. I mean I could live without a new bumper, the front sensors, no problem, I did have a HSE and forgot to turn them on 90% the time. It's just to see if it can be done. A hobby if you like.

This site isn't overflowing with people that mod vehicles. A lot have the top of the range so no need. Others of us didn't get this model, maybe a mistake, whatever, but over time instead of spending oodles of cash on a new motor, we tend to mod them. The D3/4 site is totally different, they even mod new cars. You should go for a look. There photos of complete wiring looms taken out of cars, in fact the interior stripped naked. They go places the rest of us would fear to tread.

I'll take a look. Sounds interesting, but not something I would attempt myself. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

Yes, you should only do what you are comfortable with, but you'd be surprised what a layman can do following simple instructions and by being carefull. Hence why people come on here and post or read instructions on things they have done, all very good, there is always people on here that can and will help you. Beats coughing up 100 quid plus VAT to the LR dealer. Half the time with them you get the stock reply, IT CANT BE DONE, when it can.

Not quite true, if they are not capable of reversing, they then cheat and fit a mover Smile p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
