United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Rimini Red
Freelander pricing ???

Just noticed that the new eD4 (2wd) GS is the same price as the pre-VAT rise tD4 (4WD) @ £24,995 - just £750 difference. Sounds like a rip off - £750 that buys you a Haldex unit, all the TR stuff and no doubt other features too.

If I didn't know better I would say that LR are pricing the eD4 out of the market so no one buys one - saving their embarrassment next time it snows. Twisted Evil

Is anyone on the site owning up to owning a 2wd FL yet???? Apologies in advance.......
James LPR have you taken any orders yet??? There's always a way forward!

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Rimini Red

Dealer I was in last week had one in white, looked the same as a 4wd except for the e badge. He said roughly a grand cheaper on each trim level. Presume they are seeking Quashqui market but suspect they will be too expensive. Dealer said, save a grand and regret it when it snows........ Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

My view of the FL2 has always been that it silences 4x4 doubters.

It is not overly large like a Discovery but still high enough to give a great view of the road, composed enough through the bends and if we encounter a saloon or hatchback on a narrow street its them who back up in my experience Laughing

Aside from that, the FL2 is a really nice car to be in and comfortable. The difference is that 'normal' cars get you from A to B but when the weather turns foul like late November and early December, the owners of 'normal' cars are shi Censored ing themselves. We on the other hand sit back and laugh in the face of the snow.

The ed4 FL2 will be terrible in this sense. Imagine getting stuck in a car which to the untrained eye should plough through easily.

I'll stick to cruising past stranded Beemers et al Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I guess there is a lot of people who want the 4x4 looks but not bothered about 4 wheel drive, you can buy a 2 wheel drive Kuga/tiguan/rav4
to name a few so I guess LR just trying to tap into that Market but as you say can't see the point myself.

Thanks chaps - no so much questioning LR logic but more the small price differential. I now how much I negotiated off mine and anyone should be able to get a TD4 for eD4 money.

Good luck to them! There's always a way forward!

Actually they might be aiming for some of the company car market too (what's left). Many companies, like the one I work for, have lowered the maximum CO2 levels on cars that drivers can have. So a 2WD version will still allow drivers to have a FL2 as the lowest other FL2 is 165.

My company for example has a limit of 160 for all cars and all senior staff right across the company, so you can't get a Landy at all unless you go for either a 2WD FL2 or a 4WD Evoque. Plenty of nice BMW's available that slip under the maximum level.

I seriously toyed with the idea of swapping to a company car due rising running costs and costs of diesel now and on the way, but I don't want a 2WD or an Evoque or a BMW so it's private ownership for me then. Rolling Eyes

Only reason is CO2 and BIK, not to make a hugely cheaper vehicle.

Good decision brightsparking!

The 'benefits in kind' are crippling anyway. I think it was Tax year 2004-5 since I had a Company Car for this very reason Big Cry

Cheers Macwallace - agree that BIK are crippling and cash option is still by far better, but you know sometimes I dream a bit Thumbs Up
