LR should do an advert, test drive the latest FL2 with proper manual or the wasteofmoneyshift auto box.

It depends whether you're a CRAP DRIVER as to whether a clutch goes early!

Ah yes - agree, but if your buying used you dont know if the previous driver was any good or not and so could face an expensive bill for replacing the clutch... another reason to buy aito Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints |

I would like to see you changing gears in a manual, during kick down, without any jerks and overflaring the engine or grinding the clutch.... |

So just to recap it looks like a 50/50 split on what people prefer and there doesnt seem to have been a lot of failed clutches bearing in mind like someone already said you do get people who cant drive properly and ride the clutch,i think i will go with the Manual...Thanks for all your input guys its really appreciated |

That is obviously your heart-felt view. Those of us who drive autos know this is b*ll*cks. simply wrong. I choose to drive Autos and prefer them, The Doctor chooses to drive manuals and prefers them. I have no comment to make on how smooth or otherwise the Freelander 2 manual box is. I don't have the experience to comment. I do however own an auto SD4, having owned eleven autos including many prestige makes. I have driven maybe twenty other different ones hired on business and on holiday in the UK and in several continents. I have driven some autos that were jerky, an early Toyota Corolla hired in Houston - and I particularly remember a Subaru L series turbo wagon that was appalling (picture of one here:http://www.sunspares.com.au/sunspares_medi...0Wagon.jpg) My SD4 is possibly the best autobox I have driven. Jerky? Absolutely not. Smooth, unobstrustive changes? Yes! And I am absolutely not a tugger caravanner, we have an automatic campervan... Trevor '60 reg SD4 XS (long gone!) |

The thing with driving a manual is that you know the gearbox and when to change to get the best out of it. Never suffer jerky kickdown cos I am in control rather than the car. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |

Absolutely right - how could you? It's called "changing down" on a manual... ...and I'm sure you're very good at it. Trevor '60 reg SD4 XS (long gone!) |

Sure am. It looks as if despite this debate, sportsman is going to do the right thing and buy manual. Unless he has a last minute change of mind for the worse and buys auto LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |
