2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver
FL2 2011MY CONCERNS

Hi, does anyone with a FL2 2011 SD Model have any concerns regarding the following...

Accelerator response is too sensitve making it difficult to pull away gently (power feeds in to quickly)
Huge vacuum in fuel tank makes removing filler cap difficult (had to use grips last time to remove)
New style halogen headlamps are poor compared to the original style halogen lights on my previous FL2 2008MY

Apart from the above I am really enjoying the car which has now done 5k miles and has averaged 34.6mpg
Would be interested to here from anyone who has experienced any of the above.
Thanks

Hi Yosser,
SD is my 3rd FL2.
Throttle response, I have no problems.
Fuel cap, this is different to previous, it only needs less than 1/4 turn then lifts off easily, I was trying to turn too far the first time I refuelled.
New style projector headlamps are USELESS on dip, I have fitted +90% bulbs, a vast improvement.
Halfords were doing them "buy 1 get 1 free" £27.00 for 2 H11
NOTE, handbook bulb chart is wrong,
DIP uses H11
Main uses older H7
See previous threads about this. All FL2's (3) Gone

Remove headlamps, very easy, all info in manual.
Check Halfords still on free offer. Bulbs are there own brand but I have used their bulbs in previous models without any problems. In fact the H7's in main beam have been in both previous FL2's.
MPG, at present showing 36.2mpg. That is over 600 miles mixed driving, mainly country roads and about 150 of dual carr. or m/way.
Just turned 2000miles but early running was all in poor weather and on forrest roads with up to 1 ft snow. Never went below 30mpg, which was good. My opinion. All FL2's (3) Gone

glad I ordered my FL2 with Xenonx judging by the negative vibe over the standard headlamps! Thumbs Up

Looking forward to seeing better mpg too! Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

I'll be looking to replace the headlight bulbs when I get mine.

Is there a cheapish Xenon bulb replacement available. I wanted Xenon but couldn't accept the rediculous price for the factory fit.

Throttle response: I too thought it was very sensitive when I first got the freely, however after a few days you get the 'feel' of it and use very little throttle when moving off. It now seem quite normal! Just keep going and you will be fine. Smile

Am I right in thinking that is the AUTO being an SD in which case an average of 35 is v. impressive, whish i could get that in my boggo TD4! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

34.6 is just about achievable in an auto but to 'average' that is very impressive! Once got my AUTO upto 39.2mpg on a 100 mile run, mind you I was driving like Miss Daisy mainly downhill! Thumbs Up Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

SD only comes as Auto.
My 2008 GS auto rarely exceeded 30 mpg, my 2010(complete with vibration) GS Auto was often 37-39mpg on long runs and did 42 mpg on a 500 mile trip to Banff and back.
2008 model was used twice to drive timekeeper at Merrick Stages Rally 100+ road miles mainly single track plus 60 forrest road miles, all fairly brisk driving and using GGS programme, both years 24mpg, following year 2010 GS Auto 31mpg.
Similar results between both cars for week on Island of Mull for Mull Rally.
2011 facelift SD 190 Auto now averaging 35-36 mpg and getting better, not had the weather to have a good long journey in normal conditions.
The week after it was delivered I drove timekeeper on Galloway Hills Rally, 90 road miles some snow and ice, 60 forrest road miles 6-9 inches snow all the way using GGS programme 31mpg. Just 400 miles on clock and still tight. All FL2's (3) Gone

Well I've just taken ownership of my SD4 car and I didn't notice the throttle being overly sensitive. Drove the 30 miles home with a silly grin on my face which motorway and main A roads. Had the Dartford crossing traffic in there as well as lots of stop start through the roadworks for last few mile. Average 42.2mpg, although once I start driving it properly I expect that to drop. For a free country, it does seem pretty expensive these days.

My mpg is on the up and up, and I am still under 3,000 miles.

Tank to tank it now exceeds 38 mpg.

On my 27 mile journey to work - (c 1 1/4 hrs -1/3 Hilly country roads, 1/3 stop start motorway, 1/3 urban crawl) I have posted over 42mpg now for every day for a week on the trip computer.

From a cold start when I hit the motorway this morning c 12 miles into my journey I was up to 52.4 mpg.

I only get 38 mpg going home.

Why? I live 600 feet up in the pennines and I have gone downhill 500 feet or so when I get to work. My last two cars showed a similar pattern. The last 200 yards to my house can lose 1 mpg after 26 miles (instantaneous down to 3mpg!).

I drive normally generally going with the flow, in auto -start off, put into drive and go, put into park when I arrive - no putting into 'N' ever, but knocking it into 'Sport' to overtake or to pull across X roads as quickly as possible.

Oh and I don't have a sensitive throttle or a difficult to remove filler cap, and the headlamps are better than my Volvo V50 Smile Trevor

I also found the fuel filler a bit stiff to open. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Don't seem to have any of these problems with a TD4 and getting 39 mpg on under 1500 miles and it's getting better all the time.
