Juddering/dragging front wipers

I wonder if the severe winter has knackered my wipers! The blade is ok and has not split or come away from the arm but they just dont wipe neat. They sort of drag across the screen even if it is raining heavy.

New wipers or is there some other issue here Question LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Could be the screen wash you are using/hardening of the wiper blades. Some of the strong stuff used undiluted hardens the rubber and hence your problem.

Interesting. Any tips on how to soften them up again? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

If there is any redemption, I'd wash them in warm soapy water and reattach. Failing that, new ones.

Bought a set from GuySalmon on ebay. Ordered Dec 23, delivered Dec 24 (our usual excellent Royal Mail service - not meant ironically).

Every time I fit new wiper blades there's such an improvement for such little outlay I wonder why I've waited so long. But I'm a very slow learner and I've been having the same reaction for the last 40 years.

Spray a bit of WD40 onto a cloth & clean the rubber blades. not only does it clean the rubber it will soften it up. I recently did this on my MG Montego under bonnet rubber that had been stored for 12 years, it was all hard & britle but with the WD40 it was like new.

Also has the car been cleaned by the cheap people as insead of cleaning car trims they tend to cover up dirt etc with silicone spray & if that gets on the windscreen it will scrape the wipers. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
