Have you checked the DVLA site to see if the plate you want is still available from them - it will be much cheaper.

I wouldn't of thought Reg plate companys advertise plates that are still at the DVLA, They do however sometimes advertise plates that other companys are advertising due to the fact they are owned by an individual and are marketing it on their behalf.

They do advertise plates that the DVLA still have, but they are wise in the way they do it, for example :-

DVLA advertise G20 CES for £399 (Includes £80 transfer fee).

AN Other advertise G20 CES for the same £399,But they charge £80 on top for transfer, so they buy the plate off the DVLA for £399 including the transfer fee, but charge the customer £80 to transfer it.

I am looking for another plate for the convertible, and the above is what I have found. So the DVLA is the best place to buy from unless it is a rare plate. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I think you will find that they do actually advertise plates still available from DVLA and usually at inflated prices....
Have been looking for one for myself and the prices are quite different.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know how to get the "J" plate? They're not listed on the DVLA handout, but you see them from time to time. I saw a taxi with JM**CAB the other day. Genuine number (I checked on the official website). Proper new plates, not the old year "J" registration.

The old style 'J' prefix plates have been held back by DVLA for release at a later date. The plate you saw was based on the new style so technically it is not a J prefix. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Yes, I meant the new style plates. DVLA has a list of where the new plates come from - GA etc from Kent, LA etc from London, and so on, but JA, JB, etc is not on the list. I just wondered how you get one.

Yes a lot of the older style J plates were issued as "personalised" plates - at the time DVLA would not issue anything with a newer letter. Some of my family still have them. Sigh.

Found the answer on good old Wikipedia. For those who are interested, I, J, Q, T and Z do not appear on the list of regional identifiers ("local memory tags"), and are not normally issued. But:

The first letter T was additionally used for some registrations in Scotland in 2007.
In addition to the local memory tags, personalised registrations are also offered with arbitrary "local memory tags" prefixes, except for the letters I, Q, and Z.

So you can have a new-style plate beginning with J or T, but usually only if you buy it from DVLA as a personalised plate.
MAV71 you were sort of right!
