Use H7's, an easy swap. two bolts per headlight then press/pull the flappy paddles and draw the headlight unit out of the bumper.

you need 4 bulbs to do the job fully but I just changed the dipped lights.

edit. the face lift fl2's may use different bulbs, CG enterprises cannot be held responsible for any cock-ups At work

CG yes the facelift bulbs are different. 2x H11 for dip and 2x H7 for main.
As previous post handbook is WRONG it states 4x H11 for dip and main.
Have fitted bulbs to my facelift SD, that is when I found handbook missprint. Fortunately I had only bought 2 H11 for dip and already had H7's I had removed from previous FL. Now all 4 bulbs +90%, great improvement for country road driving. All FL2's (3) Gone

Think of them being like batteries, you know size C, size D. It's just a slightly different type of bulb. Do a search on Fleabay and you'll see them.

Andy,
I replaced the H7 bulbs in my 2008 FL2 with the Osram Nightbreakers and I certainly noticed a difference in brightness. As for longevity, I had a pair of the same bulbs in my previous car (x-type jag) for at least 2 years with no problems.
I bought mine from a local car accessory shop and paid about £22 for the pair. I intend to replace the high beam bulbs with the same at some point. Aparently the new Nightbreaker Plus are better still and longer lasting.

Russ. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Andy, both bulbs in each headlight should be H7. My HSE (December 2009) has both H7 bulbs in each headlight. I am just about to replace the headlights (halogen reflectors ) with halogen projectors, and install Philips X-treme Vision 100% ( £29 on e -bay) which I think are probably better than the Osram ones.

Don't forget to mark (with a pencil) the position of the adjustment heads surrounding the bolts or you will lose your alignment when replacing the headlight. To replace the bulb you have to remove the complete light so you need some way to be sure to put it back where it was! Freelander 2 TD4 HSE auto Tonga Green/Alpaca

Good tip Adrian, thanks. I was going to check the beams sweet spot against a wall at a measured distance and height and replicate it with the new headlights when installed, but your tip will help greatly, thanks. They are new lights which came off the vehicle before it was driven, so hopefully they will have been adjusted already and I can just stick them in with the new bulbs

2010MY GS Headlight Bulb upgrade

There are a number of posts on bulb upgrades but replies are well dated now

I have a 2010 GS with H7 main and dip

Please can somebody steer me to the most sensible bulb upgrade that is UK road legal and doesn't risk the wiring or Canbus controls.

If anyone can recommend manufacturer and build type I would appreciate
Can they be bought from the well known auction site or do I risk buying counterfeit imports?

Here's hoping I can see the way Bow down

PS I'm looking for an Austin Pathfinder or another J40 now my poorly FL is getting better! 2010GS Auto ex Celeb, Santorini Black, 2011 facelift , spoiler, spats, mudflaps, LED footwell lamps, Witter detach,

Osram Nightbreaker Plus are my favourites but any of the big names will be a bit better than standard. I get mine from Amazon because I get discount vouchers for them, I think my last set was 10.50 for a pair.

+1 for the Nightbreaker plus bulbs, they give a noticeable improvement on dipped beam and longevity is 18 months so far.
