Thanks, useful info. So I should probably go for a manual then.

My manual after 600 miles from new is averaging 37.8, down slightly due to the snow. |

You can see a dip to 18.3 mpg on my data right near the end that was crawling around in the last snow, did about 150miles before I filled up with about 40L

If I really try, I can get about 42 mpg average on a decent motorway run but overall for the last year I have averaged about 33.5 mpg. However, this includes tugging the CG bait around for a fair bit. I struggle to get above 23 mpg with that on the back but then again, I'm not usually the one holding up the traffic! |

How are you blokes getting such good mileage? I drive my 2010 petrol (auto) HSE like a pansy....I pretend that the accelerator is a rotten hard-boiled egg; feathering it at all times.

TD4 Manual (not stop start) average over 43k miles is 35 mpg. Mixed local/ motorway driving. Best MPg seen on computer 43 - strangely on run from Gatwick round M25 and up to Norwich. Worst was 28 in heavy traffic and off road sessions.

Wonder if zoey is talking about US gallons, which are only about 0.83 of Imperial. Even allowing a diesel to improve over a few thousand miles, that still doesn't sound right (or good!). |

Ahhh, yes! I forgot about the conversion. So, I did a little experiment today while on the way to work. Rather than drive like Mrs. Daisy, I punished the throttle a bit. Not driving like a spanner, but not exactly feathering it. The average MPG indicator jumped from 18.6 to 19.2MPG. Now I'm completely confused, and I'm assuming that the computer is mental. There was no difference in traffic, or the number of stops. |
